TECHNOLOGY IN THIS DISCUSSION Join the rdxmon download Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Hi all, I have a RD1000 on a Dell Server using dell rd1000 utility SBS2011. I can see the RD1000 drive and can open it and access the files on the tape. But, when I want to eject it windows errors saying: 'RD1000-320GB (f) is currently in use. Save any open eject rdx cartridge command line files on the disc, and then close the files or programs using the files before ejecting the disc.' I have used Handler from SysInternals and nothing is using the f:. I've rebooted the server, but still no joy. What is the issue? Habanero OP leif2251 Mar 13, 2012 at 4:26 UTC Although I havent had this issue on your setup... I have had a couple of times with windows 7 and removable devices, I was convinced that nthing was using and restarting made no odds. In the end I just powered down and yanked it out... Im not familiar with the RD1000, but could you power down the server and then manually eject the tape? 0 Jalapeno OP Chris3966 Mar 13, 2012 at 4:32 UTC Hmm, I don't think my client will be happy with having their server powered down :( Any other utilities to run? 0 Habanero OP leif2251 Mar 13, 2012 at 4:51 UTC It looks like a service must be causing the issue, your going to need find the one then disable it, if you cant restart the machine again. Heres a link to process explorer which is ment to be extremely useful at this sort of thing. I cant say Ive ever used myself. http://blogs.technet.com/b/chad/archive/2009/12/30/how-to-use-sysinternals-process-monitor-and-process-explorer-to-troubleshoot-sharepoint.aspx
Of course you could trial error if you have a hunch at what might be causing it. 0 Datil OP Probe Mar 13, 2012 at 5:54 UTC The best way i've found to release stuck tapes is to restart the server with the "Eject" buttonto eject or Microsoft Eject Fails with "Volume Lock Access Denied" (KB # 583B9FCA) In some cases you may notice right-click or button eject continuously fail when using a Microsoft OS. The

typical reason for this failure is due to a failure to obtain an exclusive rd1000 won't eject lock through the operating system. Scenarios we know can cause this problem: 1.) The RDX device drive letter or sub-folder rd1000 will not eject is shared using Microsoft's sharing and one or more systems have accessed the share. In some cases the OS does not release handles after the share is disconnected on the client. To check https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/206739-can-t-eject-rd1000-currently-in-use whether this may be the case you should open computer management-> shared folders and look under "Sessions" for any open share sessions to either the RDX drive letter or a folder contained on the RDX drive. If possible un-map this drive from the sharing system. If necessary right-click and remove the share from the sessions view of the system with RDX device connected. 2.) (Server 2008) http://www.tandbergdata.com/knowledge-base/index.cfm/rdx-cartridge-is-unable-to-eject-or-microsoft-eject-fails-with-volume-lock-access-denied/ A windows explorer window is open and showing drive contents for at least one logged in user. 3.) Another software application (antivirus, backup) may be periodically accessing the RDX device letter. 4.) The OS may be keeping an open handle to the device in the system process. Some customers have reported this issue in specific environments (especially Small Business Server 2003 with Backup Exec and volume snapshot services.) We suspect an interaction with Backup Exec and potentially Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI.) We do not understand root cause and have not been able to reproduce in-house to pursue the issue with Microsoft. For more details about troubleshooting this problem please see instructions below. How to know whether your system is exhibiting this issue: Your system is exhibiting this issue if every right-click eject attempt from Windows Explorer results in an application error log entry from RDXMon "Volume lock failed. Best Effort Lock is NOT enabled. (Error code:5) Access is denied.." Resolving the issue through brute-force: For a brute-force method to resolve these issues, please see the article "Best Effort Eject." Troubleshooting the issue: If you'd like to troubleshoot the issue further instead of using the best effort eject workaround,

Solved Cannot Eject External RD1000 Cartridge On SBS2003 SP2 with BackupExec Premium 12 Posted on 2008-08-12 Storage SBS 1 Verified Solution 18 Comments 7,063 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-14 I have about 10 clients running an external RD1000 unit with their Windows based servers and BackupExec 11 and 12. command line For some reason one client with a brand new PowerEdge 2900 is having an issue getting the external Dell Powervault RD1000 cartridge to eject. We've replaced the external drive and USB cables already, upgraded the firmware on the unit and downloaded/installed all BackupExec revisions bringing it to Version 12 Rev. 1364 still with no luck. Here is alittle more info.. - RDXMon 1.16 is installed and started. Any attempt to press the eject button on the drive itself does not error ejecting the yield a eject - the light does flash orange but no eject. - With the RDXMon service started any attempt to manually eject the device by right-clicking on the drive letter and choosing 'eject' from Windows Explorer states that 'Error eject the media. It could be in use'. - Because of the inability to eject it through hardware or software we are forced to stop the RDXMon service manually which then allows us to go into Explorer and right click and eject. The only catch is that the first time you click on eject it states 'Removeable Disk F: is current in use. If you eject this disk now you may lose data in any open files.....'. So, we click on the continue button which prompts that same message again which we click the continue button again to. After the second error we get a third that states 'Cannot Unmount Volume - F: is currently is use' which prompts us to click OK. Once clicking OK nothing happens (ie. no eject) but if we right click on the drive again and go to eject the tape pops out as normal. My goal is simply to have this cartridge eject. For the past month I've had to log in remotely to the server and manually eject the cartridge and it is really getting to be a pain. At this point if we can get it to eject using the button.. gr
