Gcc Command Line Option
Stack Overflow is a community of 4.7 million programmers, just like you, helping each other. Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up GCC compiler error: unrecognized option '--export-dynamic' up vote 0 down https://sourceforge.net/p/gnu-efi/bugs/8/ vote favorite The context is the following: I am trying to compile InkscapeLite from sources in Linux Mint. At the end of the compilation, the last command is (some .o and .a files are replaced with "...", because the command is very long): gcc -g -O2 -o inkscape --export-dynamic inkscape.o inkscape-stock.o ... ./.libs/libinkscape.al dialogs/libspdialogs.a ... -lgtk-x11-2.0 -lgdk-x11-2.0 -latk-1.0 -lgio-2.0 -lpangoft2-1.0 -lpangocairo-1.0 -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so -lpango-1.0 -lfontconfig -lgobject-2.0 -lglib-2.0 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libart_lgpl_2.so http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23200755/gcc-compiler-error-unrecognized-option-export-dynamic /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxml2.so /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpopt.so -lpng -lXft -L/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libfreetype.so -lz -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu It fails with error: gcc: error: unrecognized option '--export-dynamic' What I have done is to replace --export-dynamic with -export-dynamic, just for test (notice, I am not C/C++ programmer and know nothing about GCC or any other C compiler) and executed the command manually in the console. The compilation ended without errors and the program works, but it misses almost all toolbar and menu icons (only some common icons are there as open/save/copy/paste...) Is it because of this problem option --export-dynamic or there is some different problem in the sources? BTW, the same program works normally in the Puppy Linux distributions. c++ c linux gcc share|improve this question asked Apr 21 '14 at 15:48 johnfound 3,7331729 There is some problem elsewhere. It would only export more symbols than you need based on the dynamic linkage. This is good for potential debugging and/or dlopen/sym/close. –lpapp Apr 21 '14 at 15:55 So, I have to remove --export-dynamic at all and search the problem elsewhere? Why -export-dynamic works then? –johnfound Apr 21 '14 at 15:59 No, keep -expotr-dynamic, and keep looking for another issue. –lpapp Apr 21 '14 a
risky or suggest there may have been an error. The following language-independent options do not enable specific warnings but control the kinds of diagnostics produced by GCC. -fsyntax-onlyCheck https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Warning-Options.html the code for syntax errors, but don't do anything beyond that. -fmax-errors=nLimits http://linux.bigresource.com/Fedora-error-unrecognized-option-039-warn-common-039--h5fq9FAyL.html the maximum number of error messages to n, at which point GCC bails out rather than attempting to continue processing the source code. If n is 0 (the default), there is no limit on the number of error messages produced. If -Wfatal-errors is also specified, command line then -Wfatal-errors takes precedence over this option. -wInhibit all warning messages. -WerrorMake all warnings into errors. -Werror=Make the specified warning into an error. The specifier for a warning is appended; for example -Werror=switch turns the warnings controlled by -Wswitch into errors. This switch takes a negative form, to be used to negate -Werror for specific warnings; for example command line option -Wno-error=switch makes -Wswitch warnings not be errors, even when -Werror is in effect. The warning message for each controllable warning includes the option that controls the warning. That option can then be used with -Werror= and -Wno-error= as described above. (Printing of the option in the warning message can be disabled using the -fno-diagnostics-show-option flag.) Note that specifying -Werror=foo automatically implies -Wfoo. However, -Wno-error=foo does not imply anything. -Wfatal-errorsThis option causes the compiler to abort compilation on the first error occurred rather than trying to keep going and printing further error messages. You can request many specific warnings with options beginning with ‘-W’, for example -Wimplicit to request warnings on implicit declarations. Each of these specific warning options also has a negative form beginning ‘-Wno-’ to turn off warnings; for example, -Wno-implicit. This manual lists only one of the two forms, whichever is not the default. For further language-specific options also refer to C++ Dialect Options and Objective-C and Objective-C++ Dialect Options. Some options, such as -Wall and -W
