Join Now Hi all, I have a RD1000 on a Dell Server using SBS2011. I can see the RD1000 drive and can open it and access the files on the

tape. But, when I want to eject it windows errors saying: 'RD1000-320GB (f) is currently in use. Save any open files on the disc, and then close the files or programs using the files before ejecting the disc.' I have used Handler from SysInternals and nothing is using the f:. I've rebooted the server, but still no joy. What is the issue? I have had a couple of times with windows 7 and removable devices, I was convinced that nthing was using and restarting made no odds. In the end I just powered down and yanked it out... Im not familiar with the RD1000, but could you power down the server and then manually eject the tape? 0 Jalapeno OP Chris3966 Mar 13, 2012 at 4:32 UTC Hmm, I don't think my client will be happy with having their server powered down :( Any other utilities to run? 0 Habanero OP leif2251 Mar 13, 2012 at 4:51 UTC It looks like a service must be causing the issue, your going to need find the one then disable it, if you cant restart the machine again. Heres a link to process explorer which is ment to be extremely useful at this sort of thing. I cant say Ive ever used myself. http://blogs.technet.com/b/chad/archive/2009/12/30/how-to-use-sysinternals-process-monitor-and-process-explorer-to-troubleshoot-sharepoint.aspx

An attempt to eject the cartridge via My Computer gives "Error ejecting the media. It could be in use".When the BESR service is stopped, the cartridge can be immediately ejected on the first try.Once BESR is started again, the eject capability is once again lost.It strikes me that Symantec is "locking" the drive open, even when not in the middle of a recovery point creation--basically when it has no business touching the drive. This is a bad practice, as it is disallowing other system processes (like "eject" ) from using that drive, and makes this product virtually impossible to use as a viable backup product that allows for off-site backup strategies. I understand that BESR is primarily targeted at "non-removeable" media, but a good backup strategy necessitates that we also have off-site swaps of the target media. So this product is pretty well useless for sin

Posted on 2012-03-19 Storage Software SBS 1 Verified Solution 11 Comments 2,772 Views Last Modified: 2013-10-16 Has anyone had issues ejecting Dell RD1000 cartridges when used as a backup target for Symantec BackupExec SBS Edition. Backing up an SBS 2011 Standard Server hosted on a Dell rd1000 error ejecting T110 II with an internal USB connection. The drive works great as does the backup job, which is set to specifiy the drive as removable storage but when it comes to switch cartridges the eject button does nothing. Any attempt to eject the cartridge via My Computer gives "Error ejecting the media. It could be in use". I've only been able to clear it recently by scheduling a restart, which is far from ideal. Symantec BackupExec is fully updated and I'm using the latest firmware from the Dell site (which I believe is the RDXMon Software) for the RD1000 as far as I am aware. I've also attempted excluding the AV from scanning the removable drive letter that usually gets assigned. Is there anyway I can diagnose what handle/process is keeping on this drive to stop me from ejecting it or is there something I may have configured wrong? Many thanks. 0 Question by:Robert_Turner Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 7 Best Solution bydenbosse You c
on Dell SBS server with SBS 2011 By wickh2 | February 24, 2012 - 11:03 am | Backup, Small Business Server This issue is caused if you have DRT backup policy selected for your Exchange in Symantec Backup Exec. To resolve this you have to run a few patches and make some registry changes. 1: Download the latest version of Firmware for the Dell RD1000 2: Install the update. 3: Open Windows Explorer (Dell RD1000) Navigate to the "C:\Program Files\RD1000\Service" (32bit system) or "C:\Program Files(x86)\RD1000\Service\" (64bit system) directory (All Other OEMs) Navigate to the "C:\Program Files\RDX\Service" (32bit system) or "C:\Program Files(x86)\RDX\Service\" (64bit system) directory Double click to execute "EnableBestEffort.bat" 4: Reboot. You should now be able to eject the tape by pushing the button. Follow Us Tagged backup, eject, rd1000, symantec backupexec.
