Two WinXP client machines https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326400(v=sql.120).aspx and a third machine running SQL Server Express 2005... Client A can connect to the SQL Server just fine, Client B can see the server instance in the browser but cannot connect (attempted using the sa account via SSMS). At this point, the error coming back was 26, "Error Locating Service/Instance Specified."Since Client A can connect, we know that the SQL Server is running and is configured to accept remote connections. So http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=138045 we set up an alias on Client B. This did not resolve the situation, but it did change the error to 10061, "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."After this we tried the following:> Confirmed TCP/IP is enabled on the server.> Confirmed TCP/IP is using port 1433 and so is the alias on Client B.> Tried using the server's IP address instead of the machine name. And we're still stuck at error 10061 on Client B. I'm not sure what else there is to look at... anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!Ron Moses shan Yak Posting Veteran USA 84 Posts Posted-01/07/2010: 16:01:02 Try connecting with the IP Address, portnumber and see if it works.-Shan ron2112 Starting Member USA 44 Posts Posted-01/08/2010: 08:31:44 quote:Originally posted by shanTry connecting with the IP Address, portnumber and see if it works.Did that, same result. I can connect to the machine's SQL Server Express database via the MACHINENAME/SQLEXPRESS. However when we come to connecting through any software or script using an IP Address it won't allow the connection. I have tried: Turning off the Firewall. Allowing error 10061 sql Remote Connections for the SQL Database. Enabling TCP/IP within the SQL Configuration. When we attempt to connect via the software 'SQL Server Management Studio', we get the following message: Error Message: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10061) A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. The way I solved it is: Go to Start Type Run Type Services.msc Then locate for SQL Server instance you are trying to connect. In my case this is SQL TEST. Right click and select Properties In Properties Dialog box go to Log On tab Now if you have recently changed the login pass word of the system. Make sure for that particular account you have changed password here also. Better option would be make Log on as Local System account Navigate to General tab and change the Startup type to Automatic and Start the service Now try to connect SQL Server for that particular instance. You should successfully able to connect. C# .net Error 10061 microsoft Microsoft Sql Server sql sql server
