May 8, 2007. Lance Guest Hi All, Running SBS2003 SP1. Exchange was configured to use DNS to route email however our SBS Server is currently http://www.winvistatips.com/threads/pop3-error-10061-connection-could-be-made-target-refused-it.651966/ under a lot of load from implementing a SharePoint 3 document management system and has become unreliable. When ever it goes down we loose emails. We are in the process of upgrading, https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-windows-livemail-unable-to-send-or-receive-windows-live-mail-error-id-0x80.1115094/ but until then we needed a temporary and reliable email solution and I decided that POP3 would be the best way so our email is stored externally and retrieved by the Exchange error 10061 POP3 Connector. However after enabling the POP3 virtual server, setting up the pop3 connector, configuring all accounts for pop3 email and starting the pop3 service, we can send email but are unable to receive email from our pop3 host (I have confirmed that the pop3 host is working and that there are emails in the pop3 mail boxes). I followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191687 and configured outlook pop3 error 10061 express and got the error: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your_account', Server:'your_SMTP_server', Protocol:SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): NO, Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e I did netstat -an and discovered that the server is not even listening on TCP 0.0.0.0:25 or 0.0.0.0:110 and the only 0.0.0.0 entries I have are on UDP. I then followed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/161118/ and get the following: telnet myserver 110 +OK Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 POP3 server version 6.5.7226.0 (myservername.local) ready. user domain\myname -ERR Protocol error I don’t know if this is related but I am also unable to browse to webmail.domain.biz from within our network but can from any other internet connected machine not within our domain. I don’t know what to do next, please help as my users are able to flog me! Lance, May 8, 2007 #1 Advertisements Robert Li [MSFT] Guest Hi Lance, Thanks for posting in our newsgroup. From your description, I know that you cannot receive POP3 e-mail. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let me know. Step 1: Generally speaking, if you want to send and receive POP3 e-mail, you don't need to setup POP3 v
