They usually boil down to run configure: ./configure then run make: make and if you want to install the programs in a system area, run: sudo make install The configure step should search out the necessary parts (g++) and complain and stop if necesary parts are not found. It builds the Makefile from the information about your system. I had no issues with the downloaded package, but then again, I do have the build-essential package installed for what I do. g++ gets installed into /usr/bin, which should be a normal part of your PATH. share|improv

However, after trying 3 different terminals/emulators I would receive the same error as shown quoted below. I've tried install "automake" from repositories as suggested through other answers found on here/Google with no luck. Here are the directory contents: http://i.imgur.com/uMDlO7O.png cc -O2 -Wall prefix.c -o prefix make: cc: Command not found make: *** [prefix] Error 127 linux ubuntu terminal makefile share|improve this question asked Jun 20 '15 at 7:04 MerKury 1813 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30951279/linux-make-command-error-127 Looks like the command cc does not exist on your system. That would be the c compiler. –arkascha Jun 20 '15 at 7:07 If you have gcc but not cc, check if it will compile successfully with gcc. You can modify Makefile to change cc to gcc. –alvits Jun 20 '15 at 7:33 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted sudo apt-get install build-essential should install the requirements for compiling C/C++ based applications share|improve this answer answered Jun 20 '15 at 7:31 Uku Loskit 22.4k25266 1 U saved my ass m8, thx –TrudleR Mar 26 at 15:05 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. I don't need a gui therefore I installed Eclipse CDT on Ubuntu 13.04 and want to cross compile a program which uses socketcan. With the provided gcc-arm-linux-gnueabi installation from ubuntu I can compile a hello world program and it works fine, but I get errors when I want to use ioctl() because
