*** [kernel/bounds.s] Error 127 make: *** [prepare0] Error 2 any ideas why i having this error? I tried lots of ways to recipe for target 'kernel/timeconst.h' failed add arm-linux-gcc but they still recognize this. im using ubuntu 11.10 and tiny6410 board. all resources are copied from the CD davef 2012-04-16 21:05:13 Did this work for you: Check the tool-chain path to see if it is set up correctly or not, whether it show gcc version 4.5.1 # arm-linux-gcc –v help me 2012-04-17 00:12:39 yep, I alreaady did that. And it does not work... I know it must show version but it does not recognize this. I also typed arm- and tab twice, and it does not show arm-linux-gcc. So, they dont recognize stuffs in bin file. davef 2012-04-17 00:39:18 At the command line try: export PATH=/path/to/your/cross-compiler/bin:$PATH and then followed immediately by: # arm-linux-gcc –v Actually, when you try to manually find the path to your cross-compiler you will find it is not installed or your bashrc thing didn't work. Ashish Vishwakarma 2012-08-08 08:35:02 Thanks to davef, according to your suggestion able to compile kernel.. thanks... But after the command "make prepare", I've https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1047374 got that : make[1]: *** No rule to make target `kernel/bounds.c', needed by `kernel/bounds.s'. Stop. make: *** [prepare0] Error 2 so I've try sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-headers-`uname -r` and I've installed the kernel source, but without any success... It's the same error with other kernel version. Can you help me please ? $(uname -r) is 2.6.27-9-server Adv Reply February 22nd, 2009 #2 HubertB View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message 5 Cups of Ubuntu Join Date Jun 2007 Location Germany Beans 26 Re: no rule to make target kernel/bounds.c Hi! Installing the kernel sources using apt / aptitude / synaptic / whatsoever only puts the compressed source code into /usr/src. You need to uncompress the sources: Code: $ cd /usr/src $ sudo tar -xvjf linux-source-$YOUR_VERSION_HERE.tar.bz2 Then just change into the new /usr/src/linux-source-$YOUR_VERSION_HERE directory and built your kernel like you used to So long Adv Reply March 16th, 2009 #3 jellylogix View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Just Give Me the Beans! I'm setting an env variable CROSS_COMPILE which the make file will then use. I'm trying to use a cross compiler, which is present on my system, called arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi-gcc by setting the env var in the following ways; export CROSS_COMPILE=/opt/Xilinx/SDK/2015.2/gnu/arm/lin/bin/arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi- export CROSS_COMPILE=arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi- The make file should append gcc.
