Re: can't connect to esxi host via vsphere client LuigiC Aug 28, 2012 10:06 AM (in response to 55jbosco) I see this as being fixed in the release notes of vsphere client could not connect the client could not send a complete request esxi 4.1 update 2 ESXi host configured with vNetwork Distributed Switch (vDS) disconnects from the vCenter Server and does not reconnect even after multiple attemptsThe portset global lock is present for port enable, but not for port disable. When port disable modifies vDS properties, it conflicts with other port states that are modifying vDS properties. As a result of the conflict, the network connection is lost and the ESXi host disconnects from the vCenter Server. Also, a Limit exceeded error message appears in the VMkernel log. When trying to connect directly to the ESXi host with the vic I receive the following error: VMware Infrastructure Client could not establish https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27270931/VMware-Infrastructure-Client-could-not-establish-the-initial-connection-with-server.html the initial connection with server "192.168.95.6" Details: A communication error occurred while sending data to the server. I can Remote Desktop to the VM's on this ESXi Server, I just cannot connect to the ESXi host. I have tried Restarting the Management Agents at the console but I still cannot gain access to the ESXi host. issue besides rebooting. After a bit of digging around I found the cause. Here are the errors I am getting http://dcinfrastructure.blogspot.com/2010/04/vsphere-server-lost-connection.html Lost connection to host in vSphereA communication error occurred while sending data to the server. (the underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send.)When doing a vmware-cmd -lvim.fault.HostConnectFault: Failed to acquire session manager while querying for local ticketWe get vim.fault.HostConnectFault: Failed to acquire session manager while querying for local ticket. ((8, 'EOF occurred in violation error occurred of protocol'))This is incredible. The problem was a TEAC DVD drive firmware issue preventing the management agent from starting. It is described in this KB article at VMware. Update: I have tried various ways to upgrade the firmware and failed so I ended up flying interstate to the remote DC to pull the drive out of the server. This fixed the error occurred while issue.
