0x80070057 : Windows could not format a partition on disk 0( Solution)0x80070057 : Windows could not format a partition on disk 0( Solution) By jinka varalakshmi Last updated on Apr 25th, 2015 1 Comment Error code "0x80070057" and message "Windows could not format a partition on disk 0" appears, http://whatvwant.com/0x80070057-windows-could-not-format/ when system partition is damaged. Microsoft forum says this. But I found two more reasons http://www.disk-partition.com/articles/windows-cannot-be-installed-to-disk-0-partition-1-1004.html for this error. When doing fresh installation, some times you may get error "0x80070057". I will show you three solutions for this error. Read : How to check RAM compatibility This copy of Windows is not Genuine : Easy solution First solution for the error 0x80070057 I am giving simple steps. If you want, you can see Microsoft support forum article for explanation with error opening screen shots. First solution is, delete the partitions and create new partitions. Follow below steps to do this. Put Windows DVD in the DVD drive. Boot the system. Follow initial windows installation steps. You may see "Install Windows" window. Select "disk0 Partition 1" and click Delete. And click "Ok" when prompted. If you don't see "Delete" option, Click on "Advanced". you will see the options. You can see options in above screen shot. Now select "Disk0 Partition2". Delete this one error opening disk0 also. Now click "New". Don't change Size. Click on "Apply". And click "Ok" when prompted. Now you have created new partitions. Now you can see system reserved partition and partition2 as same as above screen shot. Select "Disk0 Partition2" and click on "Format". Click "Ok" to format the disk. Click on "Next" to continue Windows installation. Now you can install Windows. If you cannot format this new disk, you have to follow second method. Second solution for the error 0x80070057 Now you are not able to format even new disk. That means your RAM might be giving problem. To solve, just remove your RAM and re install RAM. And follow first solution. Still if you get the same problem. Replace hard disk cable. And follow first solution. Still it you face the same problem. Follow Third solution. Third solution for the error 0x80070057 Another reason for this problem is, your system has lost Hard disk driver. If your Windows DVD has the drivers, follow below procedure to install driver. Put Windows DVD and follow first installation method. You have come to "Install windows" window shown in above screen shot. Select Disk where you want to install windows. That means select "Disk0 : Partition2". Click "Load Driver". It will automatically install the disk driver. Now you can follow first solution. On Partition 1 (System), the details are:Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition is an EFI system partition (ESP).On Partition 2 (Primary), the details just say:Windows cannot be installed to this disk.
