7 Hone Premium and am new to the OS. I have Free Sound Recorder on my XP desktop and would like it on my Win 7 laptop, but I have dl'd and instlalled two different sound recorder applications and each gives me an error when I try to run them. - both error reports state that there is an error opening audio device for input - bad device ID. Does anyone have any thoughts on what may be responsible for the errors? I am assuming that Win 7 does not include a sound recorder app as I have failed to locate one so far. TIA. It's possible that Win 7 home does also (I don't use home). Look in Start, All programs, under Accessories. It may be that the laptop's sound system is not completely configured for sound inputs in the mixer settings. By default, laptops are usually setup to use a built in microphone. charlie, Dec 23, 2011 #3 John Williamson Guest charlie wrote: > On 12/23/2011 2:27 PM, EC

It's a utility that will record anything playing through your speakers, convert to Mp3 error opening and save it. My older computer was an HP that ran Windows XP and had a Realtec sound card. The utility needs to recognize the sound device. I have been trying to use this utility on my new computer but for some reason, it's not compatible. This computer is a Dell that runs Windows 7 and has a Realtec HD device. The download site for the recorder states error opening audio that it is compatible with W7 and I can download it but I get this message when I try to open it: Application Error Exception EACMAudioInError in module ar.exe at 000857D2. Error opening audio device for input. Bad device id. Is there a setting on my computer I need to change or is this something else? I looked at every setting I could think of and kept finding messages that the device was not compatible. I even tried another utility of the same kind (Mega Mind) and had the same results.
