16, 2014 This bit of non (node-serialport) code does work on my system to read the com-port by the way: I still would like to get the node serialport library working. var fs = require('fs'); var inp = fs.createReadStream("\\\\.\\COM8"); inp.setEncoding('utf8'); var inptext = ""; inp.on('data', function (data) { inptext += data; }); voodootikigod commented Jul 1, 2014 @humblewizard what type of device are you connecting? And when you say "does not work" can you provide a bit more context/color? I don't have a win 7 setup with your device handy. Does it just not do anything or does it not output anything or does it error? voodootikigod added windows needsdata labels Jul 1, 2014 lrice commented Jul 8, 2014 The only experience I've had with this came when I would not properly close a device between runs of a program, and I would get that exact error the next iteration of the program. Try unplugging and replugging the device between runs. You may also be accidentally leaving the terminal connected to the desired COM port, so make sure your program is the first thing you try to run after plugging the device back in (and doublechecking the COM port didn't cha

Actualy, I am writing a program for sending SMS via net. I accept there could be an error, but "Access denied" error should not arised. Please give me any solution. If port requires any access privileges then how can I give that. asp.net share|improve this question edited Jan 16 '12 at 19:13 user7116 47.6k11100146 asked http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1153547/access-to-the-port-com1-is-denied Jul 20 '09 at 13:23 user140003 29124 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 6 down vote First, make sure the serial port exists. Check the Device Manager; right-click on My Computer, select "Manage" from the context menu, select "Device Manager", expand "Ports Com & LPT". If Com1 is not listed, you will need to enable it in the BIOS. If COM1 is there, then another program has left it open. Access to COM1 is exclusive; only one program can have it open at a time. Fax software or a modem could have it open, or you could have left it open yourself. This is easy to do. If you work on a program that opens the port and forget to close it, or if an error occurs and the program terminates without closing the port, this is the message you will get the next time you try to open COM1. Only the program that opened the port can close it. "Catch" or "Finally" blocks are good places to close the port and prevent this. share|improve this answer answered Jul 20 '09 at 13:51 R Ubben 2,066127 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote There's probably something else using COM1 (auto sync programs tend to be quite bad at grabb
Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > W4DHX Premium Subscriber QRZ Page I have an Icom 718 and planned to use the CI-V (CT-17) level converter to control the transceiver from the computer. Problem is the computer will not let me access the http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/serial-port-access-denied.199419/ serial ports (COM1 or COM 2). I keep getting an “access denied” message when I try to connect to it through Ham Radio Deluxe. I removed every fax, mobile phone or PDA program I could find on the hard drive thinking one of these programs was holding the ports open. I even purchased a serial to USB cable which created a COM 3 port and access was still denied. I’m out of ideas, anybody else have this issue? W4DHX, Apr 6, error opening 2009 #1 AB8ZL Ham Member QRZ Page You haven’t given much information to go on. Does your computer have real serial ports, or do you only have USB ports? What is your operating system? Is your C-17 the Icom C-17 level converter or are you using an aftermarket one? Hopefully you didn’t pay the ridiculous price that Icom wants for the C-17, there is a number of aftermarket ones that work fine for about $13.00 shipped to your door available on eBay access is denied (I use this one). Have you tried the ‘Auto Detect’ for Com port and Speed listed in the dropdown boxes in the Connect window of HRD? If it’s a USB interface, then it may be assigned a COM port above 4, check in the ‘Control Panel > System > Device Manager’ to see what Com ports you have available both before and after plugging in the USB cable. The one that appears after plugging in the cable is the Com port you want to use. HRD will recognize Com ports up to 256. AB8ZL, Apr 6, 2009 #2 KC8VWM Premium Subscriber QRZ Page In the device manager you can change the settings of the comport. The problems with comports is that all devices you attach to your serial port must match in terms of the baud rate settings and flow rates or any error correction protocals assigned to them. From the control panel go to "system" and then in System find the "device manager" on your PC. In the device manager you will be provided a list of devices. look for (Ports COM & LPT) and expand it. Choose "Communications Port (COM1)" or (COM 2 etc... and click on it. This will bring up some tabs. Select the tab called "Port Settings" As I mentioned earlier these "settings" must be configured equally to the device that is attached to the serial port. (You need to know the "communication speed" of the attached dev
