get the below error message when I try to open a PDF file via a hyperlink in a XLSM spreadsheet. Excel locks up for a moment and Reader then opens the file (which it had just said it couldn't find...?). The file doesn't open until the message box has been dismissed (and Excel has un-frozen). Opening the same file via Explorer or the Reader "Open a Recent File" list or Reader "File" menu does NOT produce the same error. This issue ONLY started occurring after upgrading to Adobe Reader X. If there are spaces in a path/filename, Adobe Reader will not parse it. To correct https://forums.adobe.com/thread/773869 the problem, the application launching the PDFs need to embed literal double quotes around the path/filename." -- lkassuba on the Acrobat user forums There are many other posts mentioning this issue. This may be *an* issue but it I suspect that it is not the case here as pages that had worked up to last week no longer work. These URL's do not have any spaces although the local temp files will have spaces as they use https://visibleprocrastinations.wordpress.com/2009/08/20/there-was-an-error-opening-this-document-file-cannot-be-found-acrobat-reader/ "C:\Documents and Settings\…" file path. Some further searching uncovers the advice to select "Display PDF in browser", many people will have removed this functionality as the workaround to the Acrobat Zero day vulnerabilities earlier this year; In Acrobat Reader, open the Preferences dialog under the Edit menu. Select "Internet" from the category list on the left panel of the dialog. Select "Display PDF in browser" Click OK -- goodiegoodman on the Acrobat user forums This fixes the issue/incident, but it would be interesting to discover the underlying changed that has created the problem. Is it Acrobat, Firefox or a 3rd party change? limn Share this:TwitterFacebookTumblrLinkedInGoogleLike this:Like Loading...
