(postgreSQL 9.0/postGIS 2.0). I am able to make connection inside ArcCatalog and can import tables (provided the db is lower case). I can import .shp files via the PostGIS2.0 PostGIS Shapefile Import/Export Manager. Into a database which was constructed using the postGIS template db which installs as part of the the initial setup. Inside that db, there is only one schema "public".Inside that schema there is a default table from the template "spatial_ref_sys" ( I thought I was good to go with only that table )When I try to 'import' a single feature class I get an error... "DBMS table not found"... and "Spatial Type not installed in the db"When I ran the Shapefile Import/Export Manager, I could upload a shapefile but could not preview it "The coordinate system identifier is invalid"I am pretty sure I missed a step, or have something left to configure.I can connect via ArcCatalog (so I have the 32bit for catalog) and can make a simple table, but nothing else yet.Does anyone have a suggestion for getting the spatial system error resolved?AndyOutcomesVisibility: Managing Data2462 ViewsLast modified on Jan 13, 2014 7:13 AMTags:managing_dataContent tagged with managing_datagdbContent tagged with gdb_geodatabaseContent tagged with _geodatabaseThis content has been marked as final. Then inside pgAdminIII got rid of the 'roles' I had defined. I did leave the automatically created "postgre" role (that is the db server super user).Once I was back at a clean start point, I created a "Login Role" sde and gave it superuser status. Then I opened up ArcCatalog and ran the "Create Enterprise Geodatabase" tool again. It went through and made the database, defined the schema, populated the schema 'sde' with all of the appropriate tables and gave me a thumbs up on the operation. Now I can import and view/use information inside my database connection for sde in ArcCatalog and ArcMap.My problem was that I was doing things disjointedly, and by the time I found the 'Create Enterprise Geoda

I'm not a DB minded person so feel free to let me know if my process is not right. I create my feature class in ArcCatalog (no probs) I then go into PgAdminlll to check out the http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/3850/can-you-set-the-postgis-srid-when-creating-a-feature-class-through-arccatalog new table. There are two things I notice when I check out my new table. 1) The record for my new table in the public.geometry_columns table has an SRID of -1. Is there any way to set the SRID during the feature class creation? If not how do I do this in PgAdminlll? Is it something like updateGeometry or addGeometry? 2) Also I notice that in PgAdminlll under the newly created tables properties there is no primary key assigned. So what I have been doing is assign the sde created objectid field as the primary key. Is this acceptable or should I be creating a new PK? Thanks Ando postgis arcsde share|improve this question asked Nov 25 '10 at 4:18 Ando 1,54311734 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted ad 1) If you view the contents of geometry_columns table (in PgAdmin3), you can simply double-click into the srid cell and type in any SRID you want. (If you have write access of course). ad 2) Assuming that the SDE's objectid is kept unique and doesn't change, it shouldn't be a problem to use it as a primary key. I guess SDE doesn't create the tables with OIDs? share|improve this answer answered Nov 25 '10 at 7:38 underdark♦ 52.2k91242

This feature dataset is itself in a file geodatabase that contains a few more feature classes in the root of the gdb. One of these is a feature classes called "points" that is also using the GCS_WGS_1984 as its coordinate system. I thought it would be trivial to use ArcCatalog to drag the feature class from the root of the gdb into the feature dataset since they have the same coordinate system. Unfortunately ArcGIS gives an error dialog that says: Failed to paste points The spatial references do not match Why does this fail? If the GCS of the feature class and the feature dataset are the same, shouldn't it just work? I've verified this is the case via the dialogs as well as exporting the prj file for both the dataset and the class and using a diff tool to compare the two. They are identical. Is the spatial reference of a feature class different than the coordinate system/projection? Attemping to copy the feature class into the feature dataset by holding ctrl while dragging results in A
