I just installed Mplayer and all the dependent installations. I was testing to see if it was working by testing various formats including mpeg, wmv and avi files. Then, I put a DVD movie in the drive and played it for a while. However, it appears that Suse detected that I had loaded a DVD into the drive. So, Kaffeine kicked off. I simply closed Kaffeine without using it. Now I get this error message when I try to load a file into Mplayer: Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. I've seen some information that says I need to change my video output device. Unfortunately, I don't know what I should chan
can mplayer play flash? Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] I recently downloaded and installed the rpms for mplayer onto my Fedora Core 1 system. At first I was getting the error, "Error opening/initializeing the selected video_out (-vo) device, http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/suse-opensuse-60/error-opening-initializing-the-selected-video_out-vo-device-294866/ but I found online that I could change the vo setting in /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf file, line 11 to x11. It worked for a couple of days, but then it started giving me some error about using up too much of http://mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/mplayer-users/2004-July/046605.html the CPU. I went back into the /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf file this evening to try working around it. I found it set back to vo again. I changed it to x11 (which worked before), but I keep getting this same Error opening/initializing video_out (-vo) device error. It seems like it isn't realizing that I've changed the setting. Is there something else I have to do? Do I have to restart some mplayer server or something to fix this? Please help! Previous message: [MPlayer-users] can mplayer play flash? When I attempt to play a store-bought dvd using mplayer I get the following error: Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. I found that some folks were editing their .mplayer/gui.conf file to read vo_driver = "x11" and were having success with it. The link to that thread is here : Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device. [Archive] - Ubuntu Forums my .mplayer/gui.conf file reads vo_driver="xmga" changing xmga to x11 doesn't help. I'm running 64bit Karmic. Anyone have any ideas? This can be done by starting mplayer from the terminal, and specify the -vo. To see a list of the options available in your version of mplayer, use this command. Code: mplayer -v
