SelfSSL is an IIS6 resource kit tool). On IIS7 and IIS7.5, you need to install the IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility role service to be able to use SelfSSL. You don't create a self signed certificate openssl need any of the other IIS 6 role services installed. Share! TweetIn this brief tutorial I will show you how to create a self-signed SSL certificate for IIS 7 and set up Internet Explorer to accept this certificate for secure communications. Microsoft made it fairly easy to create
Create Self Signed Certificate Iis 8
these certs in IIS 7 but there are some caveats that you should know iis 8.5 self signed certificate about and how to work around them. First let’s start off with the easy way then I will explain some of the
Selfssl Iis7
drawbacks and give some work arounds. The following comes directly from Microsoft: Open IIS Manager and navigate to the level you want to manage. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS https://kevinsangwell.wordpress.com/2009/09/21/selfssl-and-iis7-iis7-5-error-0x80040154/ 7). For information about navigating to locations in the UI, see Navigation in IIS Manager (IIS 7). In Features view, double-click Server Certificates. In the Actions pane, click Create Self-Signed Certificate. On the Create Self-Signed Certificate page, type a friendly name for the certificate in the Specify a friendly name for the certificate box, and then click OK. This works as advertised and can be used for SSL encrypted communication between client http://wdbuc.com/blog/2013/08/30/create-a-self-signed-certificate-for-iis-7/ and server. The only drawback is that it uses the server’s host name in the certificate, so if you are using an alias or localhost, most browser’s will throw an address mismatch error even after the certificate is “trusted”. So how do we get around this? By using a handy tool created for IIS 6 called SelfSSL. Download the IIS6.0 Resource Kit Tools from the official Microsoft Downloads website. Once it is downloaded click Run to install the application Agree with the EULA Select Custom as the Setup Type Choose Destination folder for the files or use the default option You can uncheck all the Tools and leave only SelfSSL 1.0 Click again Next to install the selected Tools Once installed, click Start > Programs > IIS Resources > SelfSSL > Run SelfSSL Tool Now run the following command in the Command Prompt window: Code: selfssl /N:CN=

The identifier you should use is listed in your list of web sites in your Management console under Identifier. When your using selfssl use the /S: followed by the identifier listed for your site in the management console. Good luck. "Shawn Melton" wrote: > I have the same issue.
