P.S. content of my ~/.vnc/xstartup was Code: #!/bin/sh # Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop: #unset SESSION_MANAGER # exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey vncconfig -iconic & x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" & x-window-manager & Following http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...98#post9324498 I modified it to Code: #!/bin/sh # Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop: unset SESSION_MANAGER unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS # exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc [ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup [ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey vncconfig -iconic & x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" & x-window-manager & and restarted the Xserver by executing Code: sudo service lightdm restart then I executed Code: vncserver again, but that doesn't seem to have any effect on the content of ~/.vnc/xstartup Adv Reply March 3rd, 2015 #2 van5 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message First Cup of Ubuntu Joi

to which I *added* a tunnel for 5902 in addition to the 5901, so that's probaby listening right now. Here's the output of the netstat command: [root "at" slave1 ~]# netstat -p | grep 5901 [root https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2266841 "at" slave1 ~]# netstat -anp | grep 5901 tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:5901 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 6499/0 Netstat -p didn't show anything, so I re-ran it with -anp and searched for 5901 in the results. I'm going to CC the list, so that this will get into the archives if we ever get it resolved. :-) -----Original Message----- From: James Weatherall [mailto:jnw "at" realvnc.com] Sent: Monday, August 01, 2005 10:35 AM To: 'John https://archive.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2005-August/051784.html Aldrich' Subject: RE: Problem with VNC Server Hi John, It seems that something is already using ports 6001 and 5901. Can you try running "netstat -p" as root, and look for lines for those two ports - they should tell you which process is using the ports.
