The bad news? Windows didn’t recognize a class library that the application (or script) was calling. The good news? It might not be as bad as it looks. There is a decent chance that everything is OK with your application with one small exception; one or more key files are improperly https://www.razorleaf.com/2009/11/registering-dlls/ registered (or not registered at all). This article will describe how to manually register some of these key file types (like DLLs) to address this issue. DLLs, TLBs, OCXs and ActiveX EXEs all have at least one thing in common: metadata about them is stored in the Windows registry. This metadata is normally added to the registry during a product installation, but can also be added quite easily from a command prompt. This is important in cases where a developer has improperly built an installation package or any other case where a registry entry is missing or has somehow become corrupt. Windows has several built-in tools that make registering these components a snap. Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs)A DLL is a library that contains code and data that is referenced by one or more applications. There are various types of DLLs (and not all have .dll extension), but only COM DLLs require a registry entry to help Windows find them. To register a DLL, use regsvr32.exe as follows:Select Start -> RunIn the dialog box, type the following:Regsvr32

However, in my case, the same error occurs even on a cmd opened with admin rights (tested with the answers on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7985755/how-to-detect-if-cmd-is-running-as-administrator-has-elevated-privileges). Both regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\GitExtensions\GitExtensionsShellEx64.dll" and C:\windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\GitExtensions\GitExtensionsShellEx64.dll" fails with the same error message, that the given module was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with the code 0x80070005. I tried to monitor registry accesses as given in http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/troubleshooting/nt4_dllregisterserver_in_com_failed_0x80070005.htm , but there are no ACCESS DENIED or ACCDENIED results at all in the resulting list. Edit: I've now even tried runas /user:Administrator "regsvr32.exe \"C:\Progra

Cause As of Windows XP SP2, Microsoft has enabled data execution prevention (DEP); a feature that is included in newer processor series from AMD and Intel. DEP is a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help protect against malicious code exploits. Intel refers to their version of DEP as XD or execution disabling bit. AMD refers to their version of DEP as the NX-bit or No Execute bit. Solution or Workaround Disable DEP in Windows XP SP2 using the steps below: Note: Users with Intel processors may also need to disable the XD or execution disabling bit in their computer's CMOS/BIOS. Since each computer's CMOS is different, reference the computer's manual or contact the manufacturer of the computer for assistance with this step.
