Discussion in 'Windows XP' started by george451, Oct 24, 2007. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > Advertisement george451 Thread Starter Joined: Sep 26, 2007 Messages: 16 HELP! Old problem. jscripb and vbscript need to be registered. XP Home 2002 version sp2 machine, virus and spyware free. Now I have to fix it! Again, as per microsoft support kb 831430 Method 1 tried Run/msconfig/regsvr32 jscript.dll, etc doesn't work. Registering fails. Error 0x800004005. Even booted in safe mode so I could be THE administrator (as opposed to the computer administrator my user profile is already) and I got the same message. Tried the second way to register this with msconfig and expanding a file. I had tried this second part of Method 1 before and I think it might have worked, but when it came to registering the dll's, same error 0x800004005. So that failed. I can access both dll's off the XP disc using explorer, but don't know what to do with them! Got the nerve to try Method 2 of the kb 831430. Navigated to where the registry key should be and no key. no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWARE/CLASSES/CLSID/{f414c........
What do I do now? How do I restore this key?
Can I cut and paste the key from my son's XP computer which is across the room from this one?
This stems from trying to fix a Publisher 2000 issue that came up from a faulty Microsoft Office 2000 update that cannot be removed. (Can't cut and paste from one Publisher file to another Publisher file, something I do all the time for work). Need to remove Publisher and reinstall. Windows Installer now has issues which prevents me from accessing my Office 2000 CD. Downloaded Window Installer Clean Up from Microsoft, because that should fix the problem, BUT it won't work because of a jscript error.
Back to square one! Must register jscript and vbscript again!
Please advise on the missing registry key.
