Error Registering The Ocx 16422
Messenger is uninstalled does it uninstall the .NET program as well? Bob Top error unregistering the OCX 16422 by Jonathan K » Sun, 26 Oct 2003 02:41:36 Greetings Bob, This usually indicates that Windows Messenger was still running when you executed the command. To try again, firstly, if you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK. Secondly, open up the Task Manager (press Ctrl-Alt-Del, or right-click in the taskbar and choose Task Manager), click the Processes tab and look for 'msmsgs.exe'. If you see it, click it and then click 'End Process'. After confirming this, run the uninstall again. I'm not quite sure what you mean by ".NET" program -- if you're referring to the .NET Framework, this will have no effect on that. Messenger isn't related to anything .NET except for .NET Passport, .NET Alerts and the .NET Messenger Service -- all of them services, not actual software on your computer. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.yqcomputer.com/ Messenger Resources - http://www.yqcomputer.com/ Top error unregistering the OCX 16422 by Bob » Sun, 26 Oct 2003 03:41:13 Jonathan, I just got my computer a week ago. I don't have norton antivirus on the unit. I also could not find "msmsgs.exe" in the task manager. The closest I can get to that is "BCMSMMSG.exe"? Ran the uninstall again and got the same error message? about a full day reinstalling Windows XP on a Sony laptop, reloading all my software, preferences, etc. Now, whenever I go on-line I continually get these pop-ups with "Messenger Service" in the header and messages usually about pornography, drugs, etc. I never got these before. I hope I'm in the right newsgroup and someone can help me. I cannot find any software or settings to stop this. Nor can I find anything in "Add/Remove" indicating any kind of messenger service that I can delete. I also downloaded Tweak XP Pro 3 as someone told me I can delete Messenger with that. When I try, I get an error message that says "Error registering the OCX 16422". Someone, please help me with these annoying pop-ups. Ralph Tomaccio, Apr 26, 2004 #1 Advertisements Jonathan Kay [MVP] Guest Greetings Ralph, What you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger (which are two different things) which spammers are exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor can Microsoft control them anymore then they can control spam to your e-mail inbox. To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start, then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it, right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any real third-party applications should be effected by this. Just as a little reminder, make sure you've protected yourself against the latest security issues by visiting WindowsUpdate and installing the security patches: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (This isn't related to the Messenger Service in any way, just a reminder) ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Ralph Tomaccio" <> wrote in message news:425901c42b58$f608e130$... > Help! > > I just spent about a full day reins
