I discovered that with the installation of Mountain Lion the network hosst name was changed.from baggeraar's-imac to baggeraars-imac. when I made a new time machine backup in the web based configurator of the Iomega NAS with the new host name, the problem was solved. Your drive should be available as a Time Machine volume all the time.
