HP makes 2 different model fusers that look very similar -- the http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03735235 P4014/P4015/P4515 series fuser, and the M600 series fuser. Because of the similarities in appearance, sometimes the wrong fuser gets installed in the wrong model printer and triggers a 50.9 error. The easiest way to check which model fuser you have installed is to pull the fuser out of the printer and look at the fuser's barcode. It is easy to remove the fuser on these models; http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/372-50-9-fuser-error-message-hp-laserjet-p4014-p4015 if you don't know how to remove your fuser see the removal instructions farther down this page. Once you have the fuser removed from the printer, look at the barcode as shown below to determine which model fuser you have installed. These errors often seem to appear out fuser error of thin air, and are known for a proclivity to do so at the most inopportune of moments. Instead of having to rely on emergency trips to FedEx Kinkos, become familiar with your printer and its vocabulary. In this blog we are going to explain what the HP 50.9 fuser error code means and how you can correct it.The 50.9 error code is one of the fuser error hp most common errors you will receive on an HP 3000,3600,3800,2700 or CP3505 series printer. This particular error code relates to the printer's fuser assembly and indicates that the unit is either defective or not installed correctly. Any time you get a 50.9 fuser error on your HP printer, you should try turning the printer off, check that the fuser assembly is properly installed and then turn the power back on. This can sometimes completely remedy the issue, though typically this will provide only a temporary solution as the error is likely to return after printing a few more pages. When the error returns after turning it off, it's time to replace your fuser unit. The unfortunate truth is that fuser assemblies usually have a lesser lifespan than the printer. More often than not, you will go through several fuser assemblies throughout the lifespan of the printer itself. HP themselves estimate the average fuser is good for about 100,000 pages printed, but unfortunately fusers often fail sooner than that. Manufacturing defects and poor maintenance are a few things that can contribute to the premature failure of HP fuser assemblies.Office Link is a leading supplier and prop
HP wants $900 to fix it, which sounds excessive. Is this something I can handle myself? I work on my HP DesignJet 430, and service my own car, so working on it doesn't scare me. Where do I start?I searched the archives for this, and found someone with and "Error 52.0" which was attributed by a respondent to the fuser, but the message number was different. Thanks! Respond to this 0 Most likely you need to just replace the fuser. Not really too tough to replace, with any technical skill. But NOT worth $900 for HP to fix it. by mharris on Jan 18, 2006 at 3:33pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 That is indeed a fuser error. Easy to replace, just drop down the back cover, release the plastic strap which holds the door from falling down, move to one side and the back comes off. Remove 2 screws and the fuser slides out. It can be tight on both sides so a small flat tip screwdriver moving a little at a time from each side will release it. You can get reconditioned fusers from partsnow.com or depot-america.com on advance exchange. Heck you could even order a maintenance kit from hp for a lot less money. Try the 2 souces above. by dmzcompute on Jan 18, 2006 at 3:34pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Thanks for the advice! I'm getting aquote on a fuser, and hope to install it myself in the next couple of days. by sfe39 on Jan 18, 2006 at 4:20pm Add comment Please sign in to comment I don't know if you read my reply, but I run the fixyourownprinter site. We stock the fuser heating assemblies. It's cheaper to replace just that than a whole fuser. We have them in stock and even have a video that covers the entire procedure. - moe 0 You don't need the whole fuser, just the heating element. I can supply that and a video that shows how to install it. Click on my name and email me for pricing and ordering info. by moe on Jan 18, 2006 at 4:36pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I have replaced the fuser. I can print now, but with ghosting. I can open the top cover and close it and it prints right. Any suggestions? by darrell fuller on Apr 25, 2007 at 8:37am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I don't know why it would work when you open and close the cover, bu
