to replace, with any technical skill. But NOT worth $900 for HP to fix it. by mharris on Jan 18, 2006 at 3:33pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 That is indeed a fuser error. Easy to replace, just drop http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/11-50-2-fuser-error down the back cover, release the plastic strap which holds the door from falling down, move to one side and the back comes off. Remove 2 screws and the fuser slides out. It can be tight on both sides so a small flat tip screwdriver moving a little at a time from each side will release it. You can get reconditioned fusers from partsnow.com or depot-america.com on advance exchange. Heck you could even order a maintenance kit from hp for a lot less money. Try http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/35332 the 2 souces above. by dmzcompute on Jan 18, 2006 at 3:34pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Thanks for the advice! I'm getting aquote on a fuser, and hope to install it myself in the next couple of days. by sfe39 on Jan 18, 2006 at 4:20pm Add comment Please sign in to comment I don't know if you read my reply, but I run the fixyourownprinter site. We stock the fuser heating assemblies. It's cheaper to replace just that than a whole fuser. We have them in stock and even have a video that covers the entire procedure. - moe 0 You don't need the whole fuser, just the heating element. I can supply that and a video that shows how to install it. Click on my name and email me for pricing and ordering info. by moe on Jan 18, 2006 at 4:36pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I have replaced the fuser. I can print now, but with ghosting. I can open the top cover and close it and it prints right. Any suggestions? by darrell fuller on Apr 25, 2007 at 8:37am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I don't know why it would work when you open and close the cover, but the troubleshooting procedure is the same.Do a half self test on the printer to isolate the problem. The purpose of the test is to see what the page looks like before it goes through the fuser.Print a page

Cycled power - took out fuser - reseated - still have same error. I'm thinking its most likely the fuser has gone bad but I suppose it could be the power supply also. Any way to know for certain? I have a digital volt meter and can check resistance across the pin outs of the fuser, but what pins and how much resistance????? I'm also a little confused about Fusers. The fuser part number in the printer is RG5-3528 but I also find fusers for the same printer using part number RG5-5455. Will they both work??? Also does anyone have a used fuser for the LJ 5000 you might want to sell??? If either are open replace the fuser. The photo on the page shows 4 large connectors and 4 small connectors all ligned up. The 4 large connectors are above the 4 small connectors the large ones are j1308-1 through 4. A 50.2 error is the fuser warm up service. It also says to shut the printer off for 20 minutes to clear the error. I took the HP LaserJet course 2 weeks ago so I don't have any experiance yet. I have to check the book. HP & Canon often changes part numbers and I've seen a different part number show up on some of the recent shipments of 5000 fusers we've received.
