Environment Products:Novell GroupWise 7Novell Open Enterprise Server (Linux based)Configuration:Domain and Post Office Directories on NSS VolumeRestored Post Office Directory on the same volume as the Post Office DirectoryFull rights to POA object on the Restored Post Office Directory Situation Symptoms:Unable to connect to Restore Area when Post Office Agent is on LinuxERROR: "8219 cannot connect to remote network resource"Restore Area works if the user is logged in to Novell ClientWhen using 'File | Open Backup' on the client, an incorrect path or UNC path appears. Resolution Corrective Actions:1. Launch ConsoleOne2. Click Tools | GroupWise System Operations | Restore Area Management3. Highlight the restore area and click Edit4. Make sure that the UNC Path: and the Linux Path (optional): has the Linux path to the restore area NOTE: The UNC path will contain the Linux path if the administrator browses to the location and/or if the location is arbitrarily entered. In GroupWise 7.0.x the UNC path will sometimes automatically be added to the 'optional' Linux Path in the Restore Area properties. This is a defect and is currently fixed in later releases. It is also still under investigation. Additional Information CLIENT NOTE: There is also an ongoing investigation as of July, 2008, wherein the client's path to the Restore Area is incorrectly submitted as a UNC path (when the Restore Area resides on a Linux volume). What 'should' happen is that the client will time out regardless whether it has a correct path statement and the POA will perform the rest of the work on the client's behalf. This is actually how it is supposed to work when the client has no access. Some administrators choose to use a Samba share on the Linux volume in order to allow the client to connect to the server. This may or may not work in some scenario's. The best and most easily administered practice is to allow the POA to perform the restore on behalf of the client when the client makes the request through the 'File | Open Backup' command. If the client's path is incorrect in that it defaults (via the POA update) to the UNC path, then the client will run the error and, in many instances, the POA also fails. If this occurs, what has been seen to work is to arbitrarily put the Linux path or a Linux pat

Solved Groupwise Message Restore Posted on 2013-07-12 Groupware 1 Verified Solution 3 Comments 833 Views Last Modified: 2014-06-20 Hello All! We have a user that has had something happen to his mailbox, and the majority of his emails have been deleted, I'm not exactly sure how at this point, that is something that I will have to to figure out after http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3198993 I get them back. I have been trying to restore them, and have run GWCheck etc. on the mailbox, and was able to recover some of the messages. Unfortunately, the mailbox contained an extraordinary amount of messages, 60K+, however, they are necessary for the persons function, and this has not been easy! mail ! ccsdut ! org [Download message RAW] OK, I need to make sure I'm on the right path. The desired end result here is that a \ http://marc.info/?l=ngw&m=129564577912163 user who needs to recover an email can call the help desk, be placed in the "restore" \ group for access to the restore area, get assistance from HD with restoring as \ needed, then be removed from the access group. In my reading of the documentation \ this should be possible, please correct me if I'm wrong. Domain and PO groupwise error are on an OES2sp2 box, the restore area is on the same box on an EXT3 \ volume that is shared via NCP C1 is being run from the server via XMing/SSH and not \ from a Windows workstation. In C1 POA has been assigned access on the NCP share, as \ has the "restore" group I enter the UNC path groupwise error 8219 to restore area in C1 as \\server\share\restore\po_directory and \ save. Re-opening the restore area in C1 shows that two things have changed. First, \ the Linux path is automatically populated to /share/restore/po_directory and that \ same information is now shown as the UNC path. This works, to a fashion-- on the \ Windows workstation the end user can use Open Backup but that immediately pulls up a \ restore dialog asking for the path to the restore area. Entering either the UNC path \ \\server\share\restore\po_directory OR the linux path of /share/restore/po_directory \ OR the path to the restore area through a mapped drive results in the user's backup \ mailbox opening and restores can be done. I was under the impression it should not be necessary to enter the path from the \ workstation, that once the user was enabled for restore that their restore mailbox \ should open without further prompt. Am I correct in this?
