Memory Card Error Canon Powershot Sd600
Jan 2005More infoJan 26, 2005 13:46|#1So I have purchased my G5 for less than 4 months and before I have fully pampered my camera I have already encountered devastating problems that I http://forums.steves-digicams.com/canon/88737-having-memory-card-error-message-my-canon-g5.html don't know how to fix. Just one day out of the blue my camera was having difficulty turning on and off and kept showing the message memory card Error even with a brand new CF card in it. The camera would only turn on and function properly without the CF card, which is useless coz you can't take any picture. I'm sure I wasn't near http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=55571 any strong magnetic field like loud speakers (feel sorry for the other person that experienced such incident), and I have only probably dropped my camera in a suitcase full of clothes, which shouldn't have caused any damage. I am wondering if there is anyway to reset the camera setting to factory setting. or if anyone have encountered such problem and can give me some advice.....don't think I can afford to send my camera back to Canon to get a check up as it's incredibly expansive in London. I'm extremely sad and frustrated that I can't use my camera especially now that I have just moved to europe from canada. anyways, thanx a bunch to anyone who'z been reading this!! cheers~ LOG IN TO REPLY MilesGMilesGSenior Member253 postsJoined Nov 2004Grantham, England, UKMore infoJan 26, 2005 13:52|#2well i dont know wether Canon would work in the same way but Apple Computers have a section ont ehre website about problems with the product and you can enter you name and adress and they send you a pre paid pacakge to send the camera off so it would cost you a pennyit is worth ringing them to

Flash memory cards, such as SD cards which are most frequently used in Canon cameras, have a limited life span. The SD Association expects a life of 10 years under normal use, but it is possible for data corruption or other problems to occur before the card itself fails. Reformatting a flash memory card usually clears any error, when the problem is with data on the card itself.Canon Error CodesThe most common error codes accompanying flash memory card errors and the Canon-suggested solutions are:Err 02 -- The camera can't access the memory card. Remove and re-insert the card. If this fails, format the memory card.Err 03 -- There are too many folders on the memory card. This may occur if you use your memory card for other purposes. Canon advises replacing the card with a properly formatted card. You can also reformat the existing card after removing any other data.Err 04 -- The memory card is full. Transfer or erase images not needed on the card, or, if all data is saved elsewhere, reformat the card to prepare it for additional shooting.Err 10 -- A data file problem has occurred. Canon suggests turning off the camera, removing the battery, re-installing it and turning the camera on again.Basic TroubleshootingRegardless of the error, try some simple checks before formatting and potentially losing image data. Perform each of these steps with any Canon camera model.Turn off the camera and remove the battery. Wait 10 to 15 seconds, replace the battery and turn the camera on.Turn off the camera and remove the flash memory card. Reinstall the card and turn the camera on.Remove and replace the lens or change to another lens. Combine this with a camera on/off cycle, as sometimes camera-to-lens communication has unexpected effects on other systems.Remove the flash memory card and try it
