Thanks rikClick to expand... it could be the memory card is to big, quite a lot of compact cameras only take 1 or 2gb memory cards, although this may have changed since i had one, it might be worth checking the manual to see if it tells you the maximum memory card size your camera takes. In reply to Sigmund Goeloe • Feb 2, 2006 Location of 3-volt lithium battery. The only tool required is a small screwdriver. I would not class the procedure as difficult but you need to proceed with care on a well-illuminated, flat, plain surface. A pencil and paper are useful.Remove the rechargeable main battery and the memory card. You then need to remove the small screws around the casing. These screws are of different lengths and it is important to lay them out in a logical manner so that later you can replace them correctly. Carefully separate the halves of the casing. This reveals the internal disk-shaped 3-volt battery. You can use as a guide the exploded view of the camera shown athttp://www.huroncamera.com/diagrams/Canon_Digital/POWERSHOT_S400_IXUS_400.pdfThe 3-volt battery is part 3 on page 4 of the exploded view diagrams.Remove this battery, taking care not to touch both faces simultaneously with a metal implement. After about an hour, replace the 3-volt battery.Reassemble the metal case taking care that the sliding switch for the take/review function is correctly located. Replace the main rechargeable battery and the memory card. You will have to reset the time and date data as they are deleted when the 3-volt battery is removed.I have no idea why this procedure apparently cures some of the "Memory Card Error" faults. You do not even need to replace 3-volt battery with a new one. If you have tried every other remedy and the camera is out of warranty, it is worth trying. It worked for my camera.I have read that if you simply remove the main rechargeable battery for 3 weeks this causes the internal 3-volt battery to discharge naturally and so, eventually, the time/date data will be deleted. On replacing the main rechargeable battery the internal 3-volt battery is said to be recharged from the main battery. Whether this would also reset the "Memory Card Error" is something I have not tried. Has anyone tried this non-mechanical solution and is the internal battery really a rechargeable one?
