is fine, but useless without the ability to store an image. My usual SD is a 4GB Panda, but also tried a brand new 1GB Kingston and 16MB 32MB Canon SD cards that come with a new camera. all display the same message though the Panda one has an additonal message of something along the lines of memory card not found whilst the others say Memory Card Locked!

Any advice on cause of problem and/ or fixes? I've read here and elsewhere about tis being a relatively common problem with other Canon models and a solution being to remove the iternal battery. I'm able to take the cover off but cannot locate the internal battery and am concerned at delving any further without some guide as to what i'm looking for and where. Is this a good idea for the S80 and if so where is the battery and how can i get to it? cheersLee LOG IN TO REPLY sponsored links (this ad will go away when you log in as registered member) Azzure_7Azzure_7Goldmember1,102 postsJoined Nov 2006Austin, TX. Utilize your warranty if it's still available. On a side note, I had this same problem once... bonehead move on my part. I doubt it could happen to 4 cards. I managed to delete the DCIM folder that was originally on the card and rendered it useless after that.JustinMy GearMy 15 minutes of fame...LOG IN TO REPLY leedonleedonTHREAD STARTERHatchling5 postsJ

How To Unlock A Memory Card For A Digital Camera
Posts: 2 Bought my Cann Powershot S80 over a year ago and have to say it's a great camera - when memory card error on camera it works (e18 problem etc). Camera was working fine until a few days agowhen after removing the mem card to download some pics it displayed the message "Memory Card Error" when reinserted, this with a4Gb http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=310525 SD card that had been fine until then. Tried a brand new 1GB card and got same message along with "Card Locked!". Tried a 32MB & 16 MB Canon SD card (those crappy ones that come wirtha Canoncamera) and got the same message. Strangely enough the "Cad Locked!" message doesnt ap[pear with the 4GB card, instead it says no memory card found?! Any ideas on the nature of the problem http://forums.steves-digicams.com/canon/120274-s80-memory-card-error.html and/ or how to fix it. I'm travelling inAfrica for the next 4 mths so sending to for reapir is hardly an option, and besides, it'll likely cost a fortune and i want to be able to take pics now. I've read about a fix for other Canons with this problem being to remove the internal battery, but cannot locate it on the S80after taking the cover off.I would also be grateful if anyone could tell me whereit isandany other advice. I'm reasonably technically adept so long as instructions aren't too complex cheers Lee Sponsored Links May 3, 2007, 4:40 AM #2 leedon Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Posts: 2 Now fixed!!! a small part of the mem card had come away and was lodged in the card receptor. managed to remove this with a delicate operation involvingan unfoldedpaperclip then straighten out the card reader contacts and with a new cad (1GBKingston - no cheap crap this time) it worksfine « Previous Thread | Next Thread » Thread Tools Show Printable Version Email this Page Search this Thread Advanced Search Posting Rules You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edi

Mar 25, 2007 I was on a vacation https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/1932712 trip recently and was taking pictures with my Canon s80. Everything was working fine and then all of a sudden I got a message on the screen that said "Memory Card Error". When I go into playback mode on the camera, it blinks for a while and says "No Image". When I put the card into my card reader it says "Cannot Access Drive because memory card of I/O Device Card Error". I don't care about the memory card because I can always get a new one, but all of the pictures and movies from my vacation are on that card! Does anyone know what happened or what I can do to retrieve my pictures? I am using a 2gb Kingston Elite Pro if that helps. Thanks. In reply to hsi007 • Mar 25, 2007 Best advice is to save that card and maybe you can retrieve them later on the pc. Have to get a special program to recover the images. Part of the card might be corrupt thus getting the error.Just buy another card for now. tocar's gear list:tocar's gear list Canon PowerShot S5 IS Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Nikon Coolpix P900 Canon EOS 5D Mark II Canon EOS M +1 more Reply Reply with quote Complain Forum Threaded view Keyboard shortcuts: FForum MMy threads Latest reviewsNikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm F1.8G ED88%Olympus E-PL8 First Impressions ReviewYI M1 First Impressions ReviewPanasonic Lumix DMC-G85/G80 First Impressions ReviewPanasonic Lumix DMC-LX10/LX15 First Impressions ReviewSee all reviews » Finished challengesBefore the frost by pwsmithfrom A very floral worldEvening Cloud by lim yau tongfrom CloudsDrinking leopard by fulviavecchiafrom South AfricaLightning Strike in Matera by Jonathan Shapirofrom Landscape - Urban #2Discover more challenges » Most popular camerasLeica Q (Typ 116)2.9%Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R II2.8%Ricoh GR II2.8%Fujifilm X100T2.6%Canon EOS 5D Mark IV2.3%Fujifilm X702.2%Nikon Coolpix P9002.2%Sigma dp2 Quattro2.2%Sigma dp1 Quattro2.2%Si
