I also have a 2GB memory card for the camera ('Secure Digital High Performance' and it also says foto source at the bottom of the label). On the weekend http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?22909-Memory-Card-Error-Card-Locked I took the card out because I forgot what brand it was. When I put the card back in I recieved the message "Memory Card Error" and "Card Locked" underneath it. Can't do anything on the camera. I've looked around on the internet and was told it's possible to recover the lost images before trying to format it to use the card again. I'm also using Windows 2000 Professional and a Core Micro USB card reader. When I use the card reader on my computer, it doesn't recognize the SD card that is in the reader. When I go to properties, it says 0 bytes. I thought I would try recovering anyways. I downloaded PhotoRescue software (trial version). First I tried selecting 'Logical Drive' for the options before trying to recover. It doesn't work, and asks for the drives information. So I entered 2GB as the card size, and 32k as the cluster size (looked it up on the internet). Once the program starts I just get all "READ ERROR AT..." errors followed by "The parameter is incorrect." Okay, so that method doesn't work. Next I try selecting
Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera Answers : HelloOK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might \012sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the \012memory card and switch the lever on http://www.lionebra.com/canon_powershot_sd1000_digital_camera/q2061756-memory_card_error the left side to the unlock.If\012 the error is still displayed after you did the above, http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=791906 you might want to\012 try the card in another camera.If\012 the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader\012 in your camera. If you open you sd slot and look inside with a \012sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot \012there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. memory card This switch work \012as follows: 1. When no card is inserted / no write protection ,\012 the switch is open and thus the protection is off. 2. When locked\012 card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the \012card is lock.Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the \012sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence \012the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera \012without memory card error a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card \012normally.It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because \012of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you \012can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the\012 base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to \012bend it.If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a\012 short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled\012 to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.Please\012 feel free to contact me if you need further informationKind \012regardsAndrea Repair Help & Product Troubleshooting for Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus.
