Topic Archived BoardsGameCubeCan't format memory card?User Info: GreatHammurabiGreatHammurabi 3 years ago#1 I have a memory card that consistently corrupts, most likely memory card from using it in my Wii for several years. I read that you can format the memory card to fix it but my Gamecube never asks me to format the card. It's not like the file corruption is only occasionally, most games corrupt almost immediately after making the file. Some games save okay but most games can't even be reloaded 30 gamecube memory card seconds after saving due to the corruption. I've even tried erasing EVERYTHING off the memory card and saving a file that consistently corrupts to see if the format prompt appears, but it doesn't. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is the memory card a lost cause?3DS Friend Code: 5284 - 1400 - 8692User Info: Jason Hart MaiviaJason Hart Maivia 3 years ago#2I found this while googling:http://gbatemp.net/threads/gamecube-memory-card-format-trick.284795/I don't know if it will work or not. I guess this only works if the Gamecube tells you that your cards needs to be formatted.Since you've already deleted everything, you may as well give it a try. But, it could be time to buy new memory cards.Praise Rainbow MikaSSBB: 3652-6261-7096 + Mario Kart Wii: 2707-7247-9079 + Samurai Warriors 3: 0346-6035-0276User Info: GreatHammurabiGreatHammurabi (Topic Creator)3 years ago#3I was gonna try that but it requires the 'format prompt' which I can't seem to get to show up.It's odd, some games work fine and won't corrupt, at least in the immediately testable future, and some games corrupt INSTANTLY after creating the save data. Can't figure it out.Is the

User Info: nickrulz99 nickrulz99 - 7 years ago Top Voted Answer there are several possibilities, including those that the others here have listed. However there is at least one possibility that has not been listed and that is this:After a while your memory card itself breaks. This means that no matter what you do or what game you are playing your files will continue to get corrupted, and you must start over. occasionally the memory card might "fix" itself and be able to save again for a while, but it is inevitable that it will break again. I suggest that you follow other peoples suggestions for how to "fix" it, and also see if the same thing happens for other games. however if you are unable to fix it, and the same problem occurs with other games, I'm afraid the only solution is to get a new memory card. I am actually facing the same problem myself right now... one of my memory cards has temporarily fixed itself, but its only a matter of time before it corrupts again. Luckily I have ordered a new memory card (you can get new ones that work with the Wii now) and hopefully it will arrive before my memory card dies again. If you're lucky though, you dont have the same problem as me and it will be easy to fix. If you have saves from another game on it, try checking them. User Info: Kratos15354 Kratos15354 (Expert / FAQ Author) - 7 years ago 1 0 Usually your memory card gets corrupt when you turn off your co
