Many, many, many of these cameras fail with a 'memory card error' that has nothing to do with the memory card. A Google search shows many posts from people that have had this problem. In the past Canon maintained that this was a user problem and out of warranty cameras would be repaired after a $150 fee. Three years ago after I filed a BBB complaint I memory card error received communication from Canon that they would fix it for free. Recently my camera failed again and I just discovered that the company has posted a Service Notice on their website to repair the camera at no charge. They even provide free shipping to pay to send the camera in. I just got my camera back - it was a 'new' refurb unit.
