What Is Disk0s2
My iMac started freezing with the beachball for several seconds yesterday. This morning it would not

get past the Apple screen. I tried opening in Terminal and got disk0s2 I/O error with a long string of whatever words behind it. disk0s2 i/o error invalid node structure I tried fsck -f and it got to "rebuilding b-tree catalog" (b-catalog tree?). After that, there was a long column of "invalid node structure" mixed with "invalid record count" and some "disk0s2: I/o error invalid key length"... to (4, 1168).I https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4700518?tstart=0 tried starting from the install disk, 10.6.4, holding down the C key. Only got the Apple screen with spinning thing. Tried the Apple Hardware Test, twice, because it didn't seem right. But the test got about 90% done and stopped, I left it for 30 minutes and nothing happened.Does this mean my HD is dead? If so, is it possible to replace it in this old of a machine, 2010? What would be a reasonable choice of new HD, http://ringo.net/forum/index.php?topic=10014.0 would a solid state one work?I do have data backup as of yesterday. I did disconnect it before trying to restart the computer.I had added memory a couple of months ago and the computer was working fine until yesterday. Is there anything else I should try before giving up on the computer starting? I do not want to drag the computer to an Apple Store. Logged RevX Ringo Bingo Posts: 12008 Gender: "O for a horse with wings!" If you can bring up disk utility from the install disk you can check to see if the Smart status is showing valid or not. If it shows bad then yes it is time for a new disk. Depending on the type of mac it can be easy or difficult to replace the internal disk but not impossible to do at home.If you can't get the machine to boot at all then its more tricky and perhaps only a trip to the Apple store can help. Im posting here out of desperation for some kind of help with my Powerbook. It is a problem that has only started to occur in the last few days. The hard disk will begin to seek more aggressively causing itunes to skip and applications to halt. The colour wheel appears whilst the disk continues to seek and then all of a sudden it will go back to working correctly. The more applications running i o error the more frequent the slow downs. I have been watching activity monitor whilst it occurs and none of the programs are using large amounts of processor time, infact the activity monitor itself is always on top with about 10%. Activity monitor does report large amounts of disk activity. I checked console and the system logs are reporting the following: Jun 11 20:23:13 isunk kernel[0]: disk0s9: I/O error. Jun 11 20:45:57 isunk kernel[0]: disk0s9: I/O error. Jun 11 20:46:38 isunk kernel[0]: disk0s9: I/O error. Jun 11 20:48:00 isunk kernel[0]: disk0s9: I/O error. Naturally I got a bit panicky at this and decided to reboot off the install DVD and run disk utility... I ran all available first aid :doctor: procedures and the disk passed the tests. Nothing on my system has changed, no software or hardware changes have been made. Im totally confused by i
