Whenever I try to boot, my computer says "Error getting authority: Error initializing authority: Could not connect: No such file or directory (g-io-error-quark, 1) Welcome to emergency mode!..." followed by abunch of things I can do. It spits the same error out if I ctrl-d to boot into default mode, and the fstab file matches the drive UUIDs perfectly. But I i/o error dev think I found the culprit. When I run blkid, it takes a while, and then spits out "blk_update_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0" followed by the drives' data. What is happening, why, and how do I fix it? I tried the possible duplicate question, but it is a slightly different error and the solution doesn't work. filesystem share|improve this question edited Jan 9 at 15:31 asked Jan 9 at 14:17 Ben 62212 1 Possible duplicate of "Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0" error –Mark Kirby Jan 9 at 14:38 I figured out that I can get it to work if I boot into recoovery mode and then tell it to fix broken packages. It doesn't seem to matter if this was sucessful or not. Then I can continue booting and it works. –Ben Jan 11 at 12:20 Update: I discovered it doesn't NEED to be the fix broken packages option. It will in fact work with any option that remounts the file system in read-write mode. So I can only assume this problem originates from the file system not being mounted properly. –Ben Jan 12 at 20:38 If you solved your problem yourself, please answer your own question and accept it. Don't put the answer in the comments! :-) &nda

Backtrack 4 USB Install - Offensive Security However, when I try to boot off of it, I get the following errors. Code: end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0 and this just repeats over and over again This is using a 4GB OCZ usb drive and an old IBM Thinkpad T40. However, I can pop it in my Lenovo S10 netbook and it boots up just fine using the very same Persistent LiveCD option. I checked device.map and I don't have fd0 listed so I don't know why it's trying to look for it. and yes, I did install grub with the "--no-floppy" option /EDIT -- Okay, nevermind. I feel like an idiot. All I had to do was disable legacy floppy support in the T40's BIOS and it works fine now. but that's the solution if anyone else ever comes upon it The above would probably help me, however I have no Floppy legacy support option in my BIOS, but I do have an extra IDE/RAID controler, which I disabled and this did not solve the error message on persistent boot. Non persistent works fine. Specs: CPU: Intel q9450 PSU: Thermaltake 850w Mobo: MSI x48 Platinum RAM: 1gb Corsair DDR3 1333mhz (the other one died, replacement coming soon... hopefully.)
