I just upgraded to blk_update_request i/o error dev fd0 sector 0 8.10 using the Synaptic Package Manager. I'm getting the following error when I boot with a disk in the CD/DVD drive. end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 216176 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 54044 The following is an excerpt from kern.log: Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 27.942989] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Medium Error [current] Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 27.942991] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: L-EC uncorrectable error Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 27.942994] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 216176 Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 27.942995] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 54044 Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 33.288241] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE,SUGGEST_OK The error message repeats, but Ubuntu does eventually load. The error message stops when I eject the CD. I do not get the error message at all when I boot with an empty CD/DVD drive. However, the drive works after Ubuntu is loaded. I can read CDs and DVDs just fine. I did not see this error in 8.04. a) Is anyone else having this issue? b) How can I resolve this issue? And when I once hit the Esc key during startup - with the DVD in the tray - one of the boot messages read: I/O buffer error in /dev/sr0 at sector 4096 Does anybody know what the problem is? Update 1: I have done the stuff suggested in How to install all existing media codecs? - only two additional packages were needed. So my computer was already up to date in this regard. But I now attempted sudo mount /dev/sr0 /dev/dvd again, followed by dmesg: [ 519.520092] sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE [ 519.520102] sr 1:0:0:0:
