It has "Intel G41 chipset" with "Intel Core2duo processor", 4GB DDR2 RAM. I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7. I downloaded "ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso" file and burn it on to a CD. Then I inserted in it on my drive and reboot my desktop. Installation started, but after passing almost half an hour, installation stopped. It showed error lines like this: 2816.493003 end_request I/O error, dev sr0, http://askubuntu.com/questions/157092/i-cant-install-ubuntu-12-04-on-my-desktop sector 1291668 When installation stopped, I re-inserted the CD and ran wubi.exe from Windows, then tried "help me boot from CD" option, but after 3-4 mins, an error message popped up saying "permission denied". I also tried the option described in here, but same messages show every time. What should I do to install Ubuntu now? 12.04 installation wubi share|improve this question edited Jun 28 '12 at 10:38 Eliah Kagan 56.2k15162256 asked Jun 28 '12 at 10:23 Pratyay 62 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote I had the same problem and I solved it this way: as far as the boot helper is concerned, I removed the failed helper installation and in the BIOS I set boot priority to cd errors during installation were solved by burning the same iso on another CD after ensuring the correctness of its md5 hash; probabily the previous burning had some problems or the cd was not clean.. I hope that these solutions will help you.. share|improve this answer answered Sep 12 '12 at 12:20 aeffe 212 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Check the md5 hash of the iso file you have downloaded. Install hashcheck shell extension in windows. Right click on ISO, go to properties and select checksum tab. Copy the md5. Now open this page, press Ctrl+F

I boot to the archlinux x86-64 and it boots me into [rootfs /]# The error I am getting is the same error I am seeing in a lot of forums. ERROR: '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201512' device did not show up after 30 seconds... I have checked the label of the cd created it is correct. I have looked to try and find the folder by-label it does not exist. so by looking at several other forums primarily this one mounting problem during installation of archlinux on dell xps one and https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=142473 I have tried various combinations of the following commands to fix. cd /dev ln -s sr0 archiso exit this yielded same error udevadm trigger which yielded different possible errors 754.659428 blk_update_request:I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1357824 754.792750 blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1357824 754.794155 Buffer I/O error on dev sr0, logical block 169728, async page read Ive never used ubuntu before to write a cd so maybe IT is the problem. arcisodevice=/dev/sr0 exit yielded the first error of ERROR: '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201512' device did not show up after 30 seconds... What I am finding by running ls /dev/disk is by-id by-path by-uuid the by-label folder does not exist???? I have tried mv /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201512 /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201512 which yielded error of does not exist because the folder by-label does not exist I know that this command would have done nothing. cd /dev ln -s sr0 /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201512 yielding no such file or directory so ... mkdir /dev/disk/by-label ln -s sr0 /dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201512 exit
