How To Fix Disk0s2 I O Error
Early 2008 iMac with OSX 10.8.5 no longer boots beyond grey screen with spinning gear. Verbose mode shows a load of I/O errors. Disk Verify/Repair run via recovery partition completes successfully, as does fsck terminal command in single user startup mode (it modified the files on first run but not second). I reset the NVRAM too. However none of these have helped, same I/O errors afterwards. Thinking it might be due to OS files being corrupted I created a disk io error mac USB drive with installable version of OSX (actually 10.9 Mavericks), but it crashes during install. I wanted to try Apple Hardware Tools diagnostics but the startup shortcuts D or opt+D don't work - I read it's been removed so presumably I'll need to find a way to reinstall it first. I've tried the usual fixes such as safe mode (won't boot), removing all peripherals, even the RAM sticks. I can't hear the drive making any grinding sounds. Is there anything else I can try to fix this? Is it likely the HD has died even though Disk Repair is returning success? hard-drive imac boot startup install share|improve this question asked Oct 8 '13 at 14:46 Ben Wise 335324 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Disk I/O errors literally translate to input / output errors, which occur when the system is unable to communicate properly with the hard drive. This is very indicative of a hardware failure, whether it be with the hard drive itself, the logic board or the SATA data cable that runs between the two. Given the age of your Mac (5~ years) I would assume that the hard drive is to blame. Disk Utility repairs the volume on the disk at a software level, often it will report when hard drives have a hardware failure but there are also times when it repairs correctly

Apple logo and loading image forever.. I tried cmd+s: Went through all the steps from the applejack, tried fsck -fy, all semmed pok, Tried cmd+v: It wouldn't fully load, got the error Disk02 I/O error (it was the original 1TB disk with two partitions), So I thought the HD must be done, so I bought one Samsung SSD HD 120GB Sata 3, Same result. Thing is that I tried with both http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/127172/apple-infinite-load-i-o-error-and-even-a-new-hd drives to install again the mac os x vía USB (I don't have a CD drive) and in both cases I came up with the tipical 'you must reboot your computer' error scereen. So With the new HD replacing I did same steps, cmd+s and cmd+v provided same results.... Any thoughts? osx hard-drive boot ssd error share|improve this question asked Apr 10 '14 at 21:14 Toni Michel Caubet 571411 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote First I would try doing the NVRAM reset by restarting and holding down Command-Option-P-R until you hear the startup sound a second time. Then I would try an SMC reset. Mavericks and Mountain Lion can be pretty finicky and even strange when new hardware is installed. I've had to reset the SMC on my system with Mavericks 3 times since I started using Mavericks. In my case, it's Mavericks, not the hardware. It's buggy. The I/O error typically is either a bad drive or cable, so you probably did have a real hardware problem at some point. I'd be inclined to recommend Scannerz (http://scsc-online.com/Scannerz.html) to test it, but you need a working system to use it, and if you can't even get yours to boot, that obviously won't help. Does the Mac Mini even have a SATA cable to the HD, or is it a connector that sits on the logic board with the

After several reboots I managed to close most of my applications but the problem presisted. My free disk space is about 11GB. I opened “Spotlight” and saw the file indexing process in progress. After waiting for about half an hour I have decided to turn the indexing off, and did that through terminal. The slow performance persisted and when I opened the “Console”; I am getting PM kernel: disk0s2: I/O error Every second. As per Google search this is an HD problem. But how and why? Among this error I am also getting a bunch of repeating messages: Aug 4 22:37:03 MacBook–Air–2 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.iCloudHelper[4459]): Exited with code: 1 Aug 4 22:37:03 MacBook–Air–2 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.iCloudHelper[4459]): XPC Service could not exec(3).
