console system log is below.I can't think of what I could have done to cause this and the drive is kept in my coffee table. so hasn't been dropped etc..I have tried: Disk Utility Repair= no problemsTechtoolspro: volume readwrite ok, volume structures ok (I haven't surface scanned)I've even tried changing from firewire to USBI'd be grateful if any diskos2 io error mac of you has an idea. My guess is that I will need to reformat it and recreate a time machine disk (which is a real pain)If this doesn't work then it's new disk time?ThanksE"Jun 2 00:05:07 eerke-bergers-macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[398]: Backup requested due to disk attachJun 2 00:05:07 eerke-bergers-macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[398]: Starting standard backupJun 2 00:05:07 ***-macbook kernel[0]: disk0: ioctl('Jun 2 00:05:07: --- last message repeated 1 time ---Jun 2 00:05:07 ****-macbook kernel[0]: disk1: ioctl('Jun 2 00:05:08: --- last message repeated 1 time ---Jun 2 00:05:08 *****-macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[398]: Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine/Backups.backupdbJun 2 00:05:08 ****-macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[398]: Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HDJun 2 00:05:08 *****-macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[398]: Node requires deep traversal:/ reason:kFSEDBEventFlagMustScanSubDirs|kFSEDBEventFlagReasonEventDBUntrustable|Jun 2 00:14:32 ****-macbook /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[398]: No pre-backup thinning needed: 1.58 GB requested (including padding), 53.98 GB availableJun 2 00:14:54 ******-macbook kernel[0]: disk1s2: I/O error.Jun 2 00:14:54 *****-macbook kernel[0]: Jun 2 00:14:56: --- last message repeated 1 time ---Jun 2 00:14:56 e****-macbook kernel[0]: disk1s2: I/O error.Jun 2 00:14:56 ***-macbook kernel[0]: Jun 2 00:15:08: --- last message repeated 1 time ---Jun 2 00:15:08

After several reboots I managed to close most of my applications but the problem presisted. My free disk space is about 11GB. I opened “Spotlight” and saw the file indexing process in progress. After waiting for about half an hour I have decided to turn the indexing off, and did that through terminal. The slow performance persisted and when I opened the “Console”; I am getting PM kernel: disk0s2: I/O error Every second. As per Google search this is an HD problem. But how and why? Among this error I am also getting a bunch of repeating messages: Aug 4 22:37:03 MacBook–Air–2 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.iCloudHelper[4459]): Exited with code: 1 Aug 4 22:37:03 MacBook–Air–2 com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.iCloudHelper[4459]): XPC Service could not exec(3). 10.5: Beware using Time Machine with a failing disk Feb 06, '08 07:30:04AM • Contributed by: denty I noticed some strange log messages and beachball hangs recently while using my MacBook Pro. The log message read MaBi kernel[0]: disk0s2: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080129063748614 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED). I came to the conclusion that the internal disk was failing (see this https://www.apfeltalk.de/community/threads/fehlermeldung-kernel-0-disk1s2-i-o-error.451421/ blog post and associated comments for some discussion on the error message). I thought the logical course of action was to attach my Time Machine backup disk, do one last backup, then get the drive replaced and do a restore. It turns out this was not a good idea, and it resulted in the wholesale trashing of the Time Machine o error backup. Only because I caught the failure early enough, when not much was lost (and noticed what Time Machine was doing), was I able still to take a "normal" rsync-style backup from which to restore from tomorrow when the replacement arrives. I don't profess to have investigated the matter thoroughly enough to be certain. However, what appears to happen is that Time Machine attempts to run a backup which terminates due to an I/O i/o error mac error like this: Jan 28 22:41:02 guinness kernel[0]: disk0s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED). Jan 28 22:41:03 guinness kernel[0]: Jan 28 22:41:02 guinness /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[2963]: Error: (-36) copying /Users/denty/Pictures/From camera 01:11:2007/DSCF0181.RAF to (null) But, bizarrely, Time Machine does not post an alert to the logged in user: the error above never even gets seen unless you happen to look in Console.app. Worse, it looks as if Time Machine itself actually thinks that the backup completed successfully. Any files that were not yet copied, including any later files that might have been fine, Time Machine seems to assume they have "gone away."When I went to look in what was left of my Time Machine backup, I found my whole Desktop was present and correct, but only a small portion of my Pictures library was there: presumably it only contained those files copied before the error caused the backup to stop. I then thought moving the bad files somewhere that doesn't get backed up by Time Machine would make it so that I could at least complete a full backup, but that only made things worse. This time, because the previous backup was missing so many files, Time Machine decided it needed a full 40 GB extra space, and reclaimed that by removing some of the old backups. Of course, what then happened was that the backup

Those disk I/O errors usually mean you have a bad block that the drive has not had a chance to lock out yet. Modern drives automatically lock out bad blocks, but usually only when that block is written. If you already have a good backup of your data from that partition, then boot from another Mac OS X disk (such as your Mac OS X Install DVD) and use Disk Utility to do an erase WITH "Zero Out Data" of that partition, and then restore from your backup. Note that you have to do the "Zero Out Data" to guarantee that every sector on that partition gets written to. If I were you, I wouldn't trust that my Mac OS X partition was the only place on the disk to have a back block. I'd want to do an Zero Out Data erase of my entire drive. But of course you'd need to make sure you have good backups of your other partitions as well. Meint Ihr ich sollte das mal versuchen? Fehlermeldung: Cod
