Selecting "Boot from CD" as well as "Verify, Boot from CD" will give a black screen for a few seconds, then the CD drive audibly slows down and it begins displaying: "end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1414248" " ....... logical block 353562" This will repeat a few times, then it will repeat varying between logical block 353560-353562. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 11 x86_64 Final. (June 9th, 2009) How reproducible: Not sure if reproducible. This is a vanilla Live CD. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download Fedora 11 x86_64 Live CD image 2. Burn to CD 3. At startup, select Boot from CD Actual results: Error message as described that repeats itself over and over. Expected results: Fedora boots from CD. Additional info: I have downloaded the ISO both by Torrent and from the official homepage. Their MD5 sums are identical. I have burned this ISO a second time at 10x speed to a different CD, with the same result and exactly the same sector & logical blocks giving the error. This is a standard, no-name, functional CD drive. Comment 1 Rob McMillin 2009-06-22 22:58:31 EDT Also seeing this with differing block/sector numbers. Com

I use a Sony Vaio blk_update_request i/o error VGN-FE890 laptop running Arch Linux kernel 2.6.30-ARCH. Inserting a cd into the optical drive makes it spin for a bit, then do nothing. Running dmesg returns the following: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize! sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08 sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] ASC=0x21 ASCQ=0x0 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 The device is /dev/sr0 and running 'sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom' returns: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error (could this be the IDE device where you in fact use ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?) In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so with similar dmesg output as before. I'm starting to think it might be a physical hardware problem. Is this likely? I'm not under warranty anymore and I hate opening up
