Outlook 2003 Dictionary Error
Custom Dictionary Exists ErrorHome» General Outlook opportunities» Outlook No Custom Dictionary Exists Error [message #107802] Tue, 16 January 2007 06:45 Will NiccollsMessages: 4Registered: January 2007 Junior Member This is happening for one user on a Terminal Server on Server 2003 SP1. Outlook 2003, SP2. Spellcheck is forced for each message via Group Policy. When the spellcheck runs, Outlook displays the message: "No custom dictionary exists. Would you like to create one?". On answering "OK", it displays the error: "There was an error creating the custom dictionary" Nothing is written to the event logs. Deleting and recreating the user's Outlook profile does not fix it. Other users are not experiencing this error, spellcheck works fine. I suspect there is something bad in the user profile but don't know where to look next. Ideas anyone? Thanks, Will Report message to a moderator Re: No Custom Dictionary Exists Error [message #128874] Mon, 26 February 2007 03:04 JoBaMessages: 1Registered: February 2007 Junior Member Check the *.dic files (normally it´s custom.dic) in the %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof folder. Move them into a temporary directory (Office should be closed), then add a new word in office to the user dictionary. Now a new custom.dic should be created. Try to refill it with the old values from the backuped file via copy and paste if you want to recycle the old data. If you get the same error again, look in the file if you see any strange entries. This steps solved the problem on my pc with the same error message you described. "Will Niccolls" wrote: > I was able to fix this by deleting the entire user profile from Terminal > Server. The option of not using the spell checker is an option, but my spelling is so sufficiently bad that it's probably a better idea to use it... Is it possible to get Outlook to just underline misspelled words as I type them, like every other application on the planet? My options appear to be no spell check, manual spell check, or automatically spell check as I hit send and ask me about every word it doesn't know. In case the 1st isn't an option, is it possible to tell the spell checker something like "if it has punctuation in it, treat it as a valid word"? I'm a programmer, so if a word has punctuation in it, there's a REALLY good chance that it's something like foo.py or get_cksum() and I don't need that to be spellchecked... microsoft-outlook-2003 spell-check share|improve this question edited Jul 16 '13 at 18:46 RolandoMySQLDBA 2,00711123 asked Mar 8 '12 at 22:13 Brian Postow 6052717 What version of Outlook are you using. The last version that I remember using was Outlook 97 and that did not have an auto spell checker. I know that 2007 and 2010 does. –kobaltz Mar 8 '12 at 22:22 2003. Don't ask why. Also, don't ask why my laptop has a "Windows 7" sticker, but they re-installed XP... –Brian Postow Mar 8 '12 at 22:26 I think you are out of luck. You should really add the Outlook version to your original question (I see it in the comments). –uSlackr Mar 8 '12 at 22:51 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2002 Compose a new message.
