Outlook 2003 Error Outex.dll
takes a few minutes. Join Now I'll add more to this as I get info. I just wanted to get this out there in case someone has seen something like this. It appears to be related to Windows or Office Updates. Symptoms: From the help desk -unable to access the address book in their Outlook. and they get a message that tells them “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error, if the problem persists, restart outlook.” Upon checking, (or running Detect and Repair) we find they are missing one or two .dll files. -getting errors in Outlook, are getting messages that they cannot open a program, or messages that they are missing .dll files -They are both getting messages that Outlook cannot find the file OUTEX.dll and must be re-installed. -unable to open her Outlook 2003 program. Getting message “the required filed OUTEX.dll cannot be found in your path, please reinstall MS Office Outlook.” -They are both getting messages that Outlook cannot find the file OUTEX.dll and must be re-installed. -We now have about 7 users having outex.dll missing when opening outlook. I checked 4 out of the 7 computers and found out their outlook version was 2002, sp3. Their outex.dll resided in C:\Program files\common files\system\mapi\1033. The computers which are not experiencing this issue are using outlook 2003 version and their outex.dll resides in C:\Program files\common files\system\msmapi\1033. This last one really got me going because I haven't seen that same consistency. There are some suggestions about getting into regedit and updating the Outlook path. I didn’t have much time to look at it today. I’ll research some more tomorrow. Thanks for your help. -The only spot I found the outex.dll path in the registry keys, it was pointing to the right file. So that didn’t work either. -I’m thinking of trying to repair Outlook by renaming the Outex.d

When disabled there are no crashes, and when enabled it only crashes when you open the assistant. I have tried replacing the dll with the dll from another machine with no luck.
