This is quite common practice as it could lead to pst-files scattered around clients and thus decentralized management. In this, you can ask your manager or mail administrator about the corporate policy for archiving; what should be kept how long and where should it be stored instead?Another reason for the option to go missing is when you have an Exchange 2010, Exchange 2013, Exchange 2016 or Office 365 account and Online Archive has been enabled for you on the Exchange server. your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now One of my users regularly gets the following error when trying to move an email from her Inbox to a folder in her offline archive (.pst file): "Cannot move the items. Errors have been detected in the file [path to .pst file location]." She gets the option to run the repair tool or cancel. The repair tool runs correctly and it looks like the archive file is "repaired", but it happens over and over. We can also simply close and reopen Outlook, and then she can move the items to the archive. I doubt there is actually anything wrong with the .pst file, but I don't know what is actually causing the trouble. Any ideas? Windows update related? how do I archive my outlook?   5 Replies Datil OP Helpful Post BSOD'D Nov 18, 2013 at 8:01 UTC Have you tried recreating the archive. Or using a different location? Keep it local and if it works try moving to a network location and see if that resolves it 1 Chipotle OP Gabriel1 Nov 18, 2013 at 8:35 UTC Check where the .pst is saved, in 2010 the .pst is put by default in My Documents and for me this cause me troubles, so i move the .pst to another folder, like where the .ost is saved. Try that maybe is the same in 2013. Good Luck 0 Tabasco OP Helpful Post Mr. Liquid Bread Nov 20, 2013 at 2:05 UTC I ran across a similar issue once. My case was that the .pst was originally created with Outlook 2003 and then was migrated over to a new PC with Outlook 2010. Basically the version of .pst didn't like something about the email I was moving over or the .pst was just too big. Regardless, I fixed it by creating a new .pst with Outlook 2010 and then moving the email to this new .pst file. The downside is that I had to migrate all their archived email in the original 2003 .pst to the newly created 2010 .pst. 1 Sonora OP FeeniX Nov 20, 2013 at 7:40 UTC Thanks for the feedback. I created a new archive for my user and showed her how to move her items into it from the old one. I'm pretty sure that will resolve the problem. 1 Anaheim OP Paul6643 May 23, 2014 at 1:56 UTC I just had a user with the exact same problem (Outlook 2013). It turned out that the archive in question had originally been created in a very old version of Outlook. If you go into File -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Data Files taband select
