I'm sorry, but I have no actual experience or training on the CX series of printers. As an Epson Authorized Service Dealer, I'm also limited by Epson Company, to the information that I can actually release to you. I can tell you, that a "Scanner Fatal Error Condition" can be caused by a bad/failing Scanner Carriage printer error message Unit, or Main Board Assembly. It can even be caused by a loose FCC connector on the Scanner Carriage, or a loose connector at CN1 on the Main Board Assembly. Theres just no way to really know and you would simply have to start disassembling the printer and scanner units and check for possible loose connectors. If there are no loose connectors, then you may simply have a Hardware/Parts Failure. We simply file a Warranty Claim and Epson Company sends a replacement printer to us, to give to the customer. The defective printer then goes back to the Epson Repair Facility, where it is repaired and used as another replacement printer...You take your chances when you buy a used Epson Ink Jet Printer, especially off e-Bay.
