requested just : blank . all drums see to be blank (color) Respond to this 1 Well, just got back from looking at the 4600 again. I http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/26390 pray yours is not the same problem as we found with this one. The http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/44617 developer disengaging plate on the left side of the printer has stripped teeth. It's like a rack on a rack and pinion steering gear. The rack is stripped. It's a buger to get to also. Am ordering a new one and hope to put in tomorrow or the next day. If you have any other questions, I'll try to printer error answer them. by unknown on Jan 5, 2005 at 2:08pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 1 Okay LizHere we are getting into the very complex ( and sometimes amuzing) world of color matching and color calibrations involed in these color lasers. No,the 4600 color laser is not one of the worst you can buy. In fact,I work on many color lasers and this is a very good product. But the service laser scanner assembly person needs to know what to look for when troubleshooting color problems.First, lets start with the basic troubleshooting. Print out a configuration page and tell me what the printer number is. It will say something like 1D or 3C. This tells us what firmware level the DC controller is. If it is old you will be able to get it covered by HP because there are known issues involved with older firmware and they should place a call for you that is covered whether your printer is under warranty or not.Second, ask the service man if he went in and did at least two color calibrations through the control panel. If not I can help you do this.Third, there are four colored 90 degree anges in each corner of the cofiguration page. These are your color calibration marks. You will see one yellow, one magenta, one cyan and one black. If these are not equal distance from each other or are overlapping then you have serious calibration issue with your colors. This can also be fixed.Print out a event log and tell me if there are any errors. These color lasers will not display calibrations errors on the control panel but they will be in the event log.Let us know what the printer number is.I will get back to you and t
the scanner, and ran calibrate now, things didn't look quite right afterwards. The bar of black printed across the bottom of the config page was not parallel to the bars of color. The top edge of the black bar overlaps the magenta on the left, and the cyan on the right, (you can see white between the cyan and the black on the left, and white between the magenta and black on the left)Also the top and bottom of the black bar that is parallel to the cyan bar on the left side of the page are usually about even, on this machine the black bar is obviously higher on the page than the cyan bar.The puzzling thing was that when I folded the paper in half and looked at the black frame printed around the config page and folded the page in half vertically the black frame looked like it was not skewed.I swapped the scanner I had installed in the top slot, (black), with the scanner in the bottom slot, (cyan), and the problem stayed with the black.HP Tech support suggested running calibrate now about 3-5 times, I ran it 3 times, but I don't think it can fix a skewed scannerI did not try a different toner, I didn't think of that till a few minutes ago...Any suggestions? Respond to this 0 Stephen, I've seen 2 of these with alignment issues recently.Funny enough,my fix was to replace the black laser both times. As near as I can tell, this machine uses black to key off of when doing calibration. In your situation I would first try a new black toner(or swap toners with cyan). Then I would try a transfer unit followed by the color registration detection assembly, then the DC controller.ALso,there is a CPR reset you could try before swapping parts; with the printer in a ready state, open the front cover, then press and hold the engine test button for three seconds, then power cycle the printer.A calibration should be tried after the CPR reset. I hope some of this helps, Mark by Anonymous on Jan 30, 2007 at 11:10am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I had the end user try a different cartridge, then they printed a config page, scanned it and emailed it to me.The black was still tilted.I think the transfer unit is past it's prime, and the end user reset the replace transfer kit message to get a little extra life out of it.I had worked on this machine before, I put an uplevel DC controller in it, (printer number = 70), and did not notice any problems at that time, but I also don't think I looked closely at the bars on the bottom of the config page, I would have been more concerned with the colored squares on the right side of the page. by Stephen on Jan 30, 2007 at 4:40pm Add comment Please
