The cable is listed in as: $ lsusb -s 005:005 Bus 005 Device 005: ID 067b:2305 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port Cups recognises the printer model and gnome correctly lists the printer in system-config-printer. Any attempt to print to the printer, however, results in the printer spinning up it's cooling fans and heating the fusing lamp while the "data" led on the front flashes for about 5minutes. In the cups admin screen the print job is listed as "Sending data to printer." The printer eventually stops whirring and shuts back down into standby with the Data led remaining
P1006 prints blank sheets only [solved,CUPS problem, Ubuntu] Posted by: spoonysucks () Date: February 28, 2008 10:41PM Hello! I downloaded the foo2xqx driver and installed it according to the instructions you've laid http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?43,980 out. Instead of printing blank pages however, I get nothing. Not a whir or a click. When I do the print test-- $ sudo cp xxx /dev/usb/lp0 ...it jumps to life https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/3405 for the Red Hat Printconf test like it's been waiting for me this whole time. CUPS sees the printer and says it's there; ready to go. Any ideas? I ditched my printer not Lexmark X4270 (paperweight) for this machine and I had hoped to be up and running already... Thanks. -Jeremy Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64 Ghostscript 8.61 $ sudo usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0 GET_DEVICE_ID string: MFG:Hewlett-Packard;MDL:HP LaserJet P1006;CMD:HBS,PJL,ACL;CLS:PRINTER;DES:HP LaserJet P1006;FWVER:20070910; Edited 3 time(s). Do this: # lpr testpage.ps # grep foo2 /var/log/messages # grep URI /etc/cups/printers.conf And post here... Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 03/01/2008 06:07PM by rickrich. (just in case, since I'm a complete linux novice) I'm not sure how to change the CUPS URI since I barely know what I'm doing. I still had no reaction from the printer. It works under M$ XP64, but I'm trying to leave that behind me. The Lexmark IS still attached at this time. I noticed that the testpage.ps was located in foo2zjs (after a search) and that many of the entries in the log refer to foo2zjs and not foo2xqx. Did I install something I shouldn't have? $ lpr testpage.ps lpr: Error - unable to access "testpage.ps" - No such file or directory $ cd /home/

My operating system is Arch linux. Upon upgrading to cups 1.4.1, I blacklisted the hplip kernel module, and removed and reinstalled the printer in CUPS administration. All but the last page of documents print normally, but there is a 5 minute delay before the last page emerges from the printer. During this time CUPS reports the job has finished and the printer is available. The problem occurs with both the foomatic driver and the postscript driver. I acquired a docking station for the laptop, connected the printer via the parallel port, and re-installed the printer in CUPS administration. Everything is fine; the problem does not occur. michaelrsweet commented Nov 2, 2009 CUPS.org User: mike Please do the following: Run "cupsctl --debug-logging" to enable debug logging Setup the queue using the "postscript" driver you are referring to Send a print job. Attach your /var/log/cups/error_log file, the PPD file from /etc/cups/ppd/printername.ppd, and the output of "dmesg" from your system. michaelrsweet commented May 22, 2010 CUPS.org User: egan I have this problem as well, on the same operating system. I hope that it gets fixed as it is incredibly annoying. I have included the files you asked for, hopefully they are what is needed. michaelrsweet commented May 22, 2010 CUPS.org User: egan More precisely, I experience this problem in CUPS 1.4.3-2 one an HP Laserjet 1320n on Arch Linux. michaelrsweet commented Sep 12, 2010 CUPS.org User: grafrotz I have a HP Laserjet 1300 with extra 64 MB of memory (80MB in sum). When I tried cups 1.4.4 with libusb (usblp turned off in the kernel), I really wondered why the cups test page took
