I now want to modified it but it says it's ReadOnly so I cannot change anything. How can I change this please? It's an access 2000 file opened with access 2007. If the database was not closed cleanly (Access or a computer crashed), then you can try to Compact and Repair the file. I have also noticed that if the file is opened or put in a read-only state at any time, it might get 'stuck' like that. So try this: Open Access, but no database Open the file in question, but explicitly open it in read-only mode (the 'Open' button is actually a dropdown button. Use the button to open read-only Close the file (but not Access) Open the file again, but open normally. Not sure it that's a bug or a feature, but I've seen it frustrate many a user. share|improve this answer answered May 11 '11 at 18:30 Steve Mallory 3,18611625 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote Another thing to watch for is when someone has access to READ the fileshare, but cannot WRITE to the directory. It's OK to make the database read-only for someone, but if they ever read it (including using an ODBC connection), it seems like they need to have WRITE permissions for the directory so they can create the lock file. Microsoft Office for Developers > Access for Developers Question 0 Sign in to read only vote Hello, When opening the database, I am getting the following message "This database has been opened as read-only. You can only chage data in linked tables. To make design changes, save a copy of the database" What could have caused this message to occur? Completely confused! Thanks so much for your help. smsmail Wednesday, March 07, 2012 1:31 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in access database read to vote One other thing to try: Close the database. If the .ldb file or .laccdb file corresponding to the .mdb or .accdb remains behind, try to delete it. If there is no .ldb or .laccdb file, I'd restore the backup.Regards, Hans Vogelaar Proposed as answer by KCDW Wednesday, March 07, 2012 5:37 PM Marked as answer by Bruce Song Tuesday, March 13, 2012 6:00 AM Wednesday, March 07, 2012 2:31 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Thanks again Hans, What I did was close the database and restart my computer the read-only message no longer display. Make sure that the database file doesn't have the Read-Only check box ticked (right-click the file in Windows Explorer and select Properties from the context menu). Make sure that you have read/write/create/delete permissions on the folder containing the database (if the

I couldn't figure it out where i need to remove security. Error: The database 'test' is read-only.You won't be able to save changes made to data or object definition in this database. This is really old database. It is in access 2003.I make sure the Read-only option is not checked out when you right click and go to properties. Also, I try to import in to separate new database. Then it is working fine for my user account but not others. They are still getting the error. It is not removing the security completely. I did Alt+F11 and went to see the code window. There is nothing in there. Please help me to remove the security completely. The end users need to enter the data ASAP. Pay attention that it isn't the changes you make in the current one but you have to import everything into a non-secured one. __________________ Free tools, code and samples here: To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.
