The Database Is Read Only Access 2003
this please? It's an access 2000 file opened with access 2007. Thanks ms-access ms-office share|improve this question edited Apr 6 at 22:23 asked May 10 '11 at 18:57 Satch3000 10.2k62148248 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote accepted If someone else has the database open, then ask them to close it. If the database was not closed cleanly (Access or a computer crashed), then you can try to Compact and Repair the file. I have also noticed access 2010 read only database that if the file is opened or put in a read-only state at any time, it might get 'stuck' like that. So try this: Open Access, but no database Open the file in question, but explicitly open it in read-only mode (the 'Open' button is actually a dropdown button. Use the button to open read-only Close the file (but not Access) Open the file again, but open normally. Not sure it that's a bug or a feature, but I've seen it frustrate many a user. share|improve this answer answered May 11 '11 at 18:30 Steve Mallory 3,19611625 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote Another thing to watch for is when someone has access to READ the fileshare, but cannot WRITE to the directory. It's OK to make the database read-only for someone, but if they ever read it (including using an ODBC connection), it seems like they need to have WRITE permissions for the directory so they can create the lock file. I've run into situations where the database gets locked read-only on the fileshare because the user who accessed it couldn't write to the directory. The only way to fix that quickly has been a call to the storage team, who can see who has the file and kick them off. share|improve this answer answered Mar 13 '13 at 14:17 Alex 312 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote alos check the level of access to the shared drive. if the access to t

I am importing a named range from hundreds of excel workbooks in access database opens read only windows 7 specific file locations into an Access Database. The code below works fine except when someone in the business has the excel file open. The import function doesn't work because the file is READ ONLY. When the code is finished, all http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5954982/access-database-opens-as-read-only the excel workbooks that I couldn't import from are open. I tried some code to make it open all files as READ ONLY, but as there are hundreds, I ran out of memory and my computer cried. Is there a way to ignore the Excel READ ONLY lock and import anyway? Then at the end of the import routine if any files were missed it can report on the ones missed. An alternative is to create a new blank database and link all the Excel spreadsheets within it. Then in vba trawl through the linked spreadsheets and import them via Access. This way you will bypass the issue you have. This will only work if you know the names of the spreadsheets. If your VBA skills are up to it you could get it to create links in a known path to all spreadsheets encountered and use this as your base. David David __________________ David Crake To view l

You can bring data from a text file into Microsoft Office https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Import-or-link-to-data-in-a-text-file-d6973101-9547-4315-a8f8-02911b549306 Access 2007 in two ways. If you want a copy of the data http://www.fmsinc.com/microsoftaccess/errors/ErrorNumber_Description2010.html that you can edit within Access, import the file into a new or existing table by using the Import Text Wizard. If you simply want to view the latest source data within Access for richer querying and reporting, create a link to the text file in your database by using the Link read only Text Wizard. This article explains how to import and link to a text file by using these wizards. In this article About text files and supported formats Import data from a text file Troubleshoot missing or incorrect values in an imported table Link to a text file Troubleshoot #Num! and incorrect values in a linked table About text files and supported formats A text in read only file contains unformatted readable characters, such as letters and numbers, and special characters such as tabs, line feeds and carriage returns. Access supports the following file name extensions — .txt, .csv, .asc, and .tab. To use a text file as a source file for importing or linking, the contents of the file must be organized in such a way that the importing and linking wizards can divide the contents into a set of records (rows) and each record into a collection of fields (columns). Text files that are organized properly fall into one of two types: Delimited files In a delimited file, each record appears on a separate line and the fields are separated by a single character, called the delimiter. The delimiter can be any character that does not appear in the field values, such as a tab, semicolon, comma, space, and so on. The following is an example of comma-delimited text.
