Microsoft Office for Developers > Access for Developers Question 0 Sign in to vote Hello, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/324666 When opening the database, I am getting the following message "This database has been opened as read-only. You can only chage data in linked tables. To make design changes, save a copy of the database" What could have caused this message to occur? Completely confused! Thanks so much for your help. smsmail Wednesday, March 07, 2012 1:31 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote One https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/c87e9ef3-7f2b-4927-a85e-6e32e0eb5c45/when-opening-database-get-message-this-database-has-been-opened-as-readonly?forum=accessdev other thing to try: Close the database. If the .ldb file or .laccdb file corresponding to the .mdb or .accdb remains behind, try to delete it. If there is no .ldb or .laccdb file, I'd restore the backup.Regards, Hans Vogelaar Proposed as answer by KCDW Wednesday, March 07, 2012 5:37 PM Marked as answer by Bruce Song Tuesday, March 13, 2012 6:00 AM Wednesday, March 07, 2012 2:31 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Thanks again Hans, What I did was close the database and restart my computer the read-only message no longer display. Make sure that the database file doesn't have the Read-Only check box ticked (right-click the file in Windows Explorer and select Properties from the context menu). Make sure that you have read/write/create/delete permissions on the folder containing the database (if the database is split into a front

Solved access database opens in read only mode Posted on 2013-08-01 VMware MS Applications 1 Verified Solution 13 Comments 3,963 Views Last Modified: 2013-10-25 I have two computers on read only a workgroup network. Both pc's run Windows 7. An Access DB is located and shared on PC A. It's shared with "everyone" having "full control". A shortcut to the shared Access DB is located on PC B's desktop. When I open the Access database on PC B, it opens in read only mode. When I open it from PC A it opens just fine. How can I in read only fix this so the file doesn't open in read only mode? thank you. 0 Question by:PCGalOfCal Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 28 Active today Best Solution byasavener This thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5954982/access-database-opens-as-read-only) suggests explicitly opening the database read only and then opening it with full access. 1. Open Access, but no database 2. Open the file in question, but explicitly open it in read-only mode (the 'Open' button is actually a dropdown button. Use the button to open read-only 3. Close the file (but not Access) 4. Open the file again, but open normally. 0 LVL 19 Overall: Level 19 VMware 12 MS Applications 3 Message Active 1 day ago Expert Comment by:compdigit442013-08-04 Here are some suggestions. 1) On the access DB where it is shared. Is it setup to be in shared workbook mode? http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/set-options-for-a-shared-access-database-mdb-HP005188297.aspx 2) make sure the shared folder which the DB resides has share permissions to full and NTFS of at least create and delete.. http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=229895 Hope this helps..
time to time, it becomes "Read Only" and no one can do anything that requires writing to the local tables (the back end database is "Read Only" for everyone.) Checking the database properties shows the database as not being "Read Only" and changing it to read only and back again does nothing. So far, the only way I have been able to solve this problem is to replace the "Read Only" database with a backup copy that is not "Read Only". What could be happening here? So basically, it's locked for any development changes and it's locked for any data changes. The IT boys are going to take a backup from the tapes of the server and re-install it, so it should be ok, but I've never had this happen before and the database is used daily for the last 6 years with no problems.Any speculative thoughts?[edit] I have done a search and couldn't find anything that fitted the situationThanksCol View 9 Replies View Related Access Database Suddenly "Read-Only" Oct 26, 2007 Hello, I have an Access database that for some reason just converted to "read-only".
