I now want to modified it but it says it's ReadOnly so I cannot change anything. How can I change this please? It's an access 2000 file opened with access 2007. If the database was not closed cleanly (Access or a computer crashed), then you can try to Compact and Repair the file. I have also noticed that if the file is opened or put in a read-only state at any time, it might get 'stuck' like that. So try this: Open Access, but no database Open the file in question, but explicitly open it in read-only mode (the 'Open' button is actually a dropdown button. Use the button to open read-only Close the file (but not Access) Open the file again, but open normally. Not sure it that's a bug or a feature, but I've seen it frustrate many a user. share|improve this answer answered May 11 '11 at 18:30 Steve Mallory 3,19611625 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote Another thing to watch for is when someone has access to READ the fileshare, but cannot WRITE to the directory. It's OK to make the database read-only for someone, but if they ever read it (including using an ODBC connection), it seems like they need to have WRITE permissions for the directory so they can create the lock file. This DB is saved on my desktop. ( I'm getting familiarized with Access 07 so I'm running some test DB's. ) Anybody know how I can get rid of this? Close Access down. Check in the directory for a 1kb file with the same name but an .ldb extension (for mdb databases) or .laccdb (for the 2007 format). Delete that file; it's a locking file that should go away when you close down normally but can remain if you have had a crash or used a force quit. Let us know how you go. Both pc's run Windows 7. An Access DB is located and shared on PC A. It's shared with "everyone" having "full control". A shortcut to the shared Access DB is located on PC B's desktop. When I open the Access database on PC B, it opens in read only mode. When I open it from PC access database read A it opens just fine. How can I fix this so the file doesn't open in read only mode? thank you. 0 Question by:PCGalOfCal Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 28 Active today Best Solution byasavener This thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5954982/access-database-opens-as-read-only) suggests explicitly opening the database read only and then opening it with full access. 1.
