Cancel Nate S Rep: 1 Posted: 07/18/2011 Options Permalink History Error 0271 probably means your computer lost all power, and lost the time/date. Just press F1 the second anything comes across the display and it should start the BIOS setup utility. Set the date and time, and let the battery charge awhile. Error 2010 is another pain that I just dealt with. It involves certain machines with a strange bios that looks for firmware that is present in very few hard drives. The easiest way to fix this is to flash the BIOS with an identical bios that doesn't have this error. Here's the link... http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_wi... Scroll down until you see "Use unofficial modified BIOS". Before you flash your bios with a new one, make sure you check on the bottom for a sticker that says what type it is, and select the corresponding downl

I bought a few weeks ago an used IBM ThinkPad 2655 (A22e) in a vey good condition (barely used) which came with Windows 2000 Professional, and I thought still was under guaranty (but last night I found out with horror that it had expired a few months ago!). Everything was working great and I was SO happy having my first TP which I really need for real time clock studying. I partitioned it, installed Suse 8.1 and have been using it everyday with no problems at all, that is up to last night when I was on Linux coding some HTML with JavaScripts when suddenly everything froze! (something I’d only experienced under Windows before) There was no way to ‘kill’ anything or restart the computer (and it started making a funny noise) so I turned it off and on again but then it wouldn’t get past the first screen (one saying to “Press F1 to enter IBM BIOS Setup Utility” or F12 for boot device). It just won’t even ask for my hardware & bios password much less get into the selection between Linux and Windows! I tried several times getting into BIOS but all I got were the following error messages: ERROR 0271 – check date and time settings ERROR 0188 – Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area or Bad CRC2 Then after a couple of tries it changed to: ERROR 0270 – Real time clock error ERROR 0251 – System CMOS Checksum bad-Default Configurations used ERROR 0188 – Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area or Bad CRC2 I really do not know what happened, if something suddenly melted in there (the TP does feel a bit hot) and it died (which CAN’T happen!!!), or if stupidly something was changed and there IS hope, that all I need is reconfigure som
t23 IBM Thinkpad Laptop that did not come with a hard drive, a hard drive caddy, RAM, RAM cover, and some other things. I got all the stuff for it and installed WinXP on it. I got all the needed updates and Anti-Virus and everything. It worked fine for a week and then the clock started acting weird. my computer had to be plugged in for the time to advance. if it wasn't plugged in, it would just stay at the same time. someone told me that the problem had to do with the cmos battery. I thought that maybe it had come loose so after i shut my computer down, I took out the cmos battery and put it back in. when i started my computer an error message came up that said: error #0271 check date and time settings. after it displayed this it went to the bios password screen and i entered the only password i knew: the user password which was nothing. it would not let me change any settings so i exited and the same thing happened when i rebooted it. i went home and google-searched "bios password" and found that a few websites said that if i remove the cmos battery for 10-20 min, it would clear the bios password. I did this and now i can't even enter setup as a user and my computer still can't get far enough to load the operating system or anything. I can't unlock the bios at all or view it. I downloaded PCDoctor: a program that said that you save it to a disk and boot from it it will give you the option of changing/removing the bios password. but my computer doesn't get far enough for me to change it to boot from anything. Does anyone know how to help me out? troubleshooting-hardware 1) If you are wasting time, then you are wasting money. 2) If you are wasting gas, then you are wasting money. 3) Time = Gas. <---lol Visit http://www.ElectrodeXS.net !!! stevehoff424 38 posts since Jul 2006 Community Member 4Contributors 13Replies 16Views 9 YearsDiscussion Span 5 Years Ago Last Post by dmcaarlson 0 verbob 9 Years Ago Firstly, you don't have an option to press a certain key to just ignore the error and continue? What strikes me as strange is that the time would not advance when running off the battery. Basically, all the cmos battery does is provide j
