Before this everything was working fine but now Im getting 5 beeps (which for dell indiciates cmos battery issue). Ive replaced http://www.xpsuser.com/badges/bios-error-5-sorry,-not-4-beeps-with-new-battery the battery (cr2032) yet I still get the same error. Ive contacted dell support and they said its probably the motherboard if replacing the battery didnt work. My hope is that someone here might know more and possibly real time get this fixed for me. Then connected real time clock just what you need to boot to the POST screen or BIOS... CPU/cooler, memory, monitor, KB, and PSU. Start the system by momentarily shorting the two pins that the case's power button wires would connect to. If the issue is still present, the rep is probably right. If all is good, look in the case and check to see that you didn't inadvertently add a stand-off that isn't used. It may have been shorting out the bottom of the board. Computer Support Issue XPS 730/730X Saturday, April 26 2014, 07:14 PM Andy Bodega Offline 0 Hi folks - group newb here. I have an interesting issue with an XPS 730X (i7/920 approx 5 yrs old.) Long post but want to provide as much detail as possible. About a year ago, 730X was as good as ever and I was skyping away (very few background programs running, so not under full load or gaming etc) when, without warning, the monitor flicked off and that was that. Case/fans/LEDs still running but black screen. I'm an older geek and had been inside the case before, so I rebooted and was hit with BIOS beeps (RAM) so changed over a couple of sticks; found one to be (very probably) defective, tossed it in the bin. Original GPU was an (optional) NVidia 280 GTX (??) and over the course of the next few days, grabbed a good quality replacement card, rebooted again and again - still no dice. The local PC parts shop owner was nice enough to take the replacement card back in exchange for a couple of DIMMs. I have noticed that despite the fans/cowling etc, the GTX is running very hot - they were a higher wattage card (around 230w, if I remember correctly?) but hadn't noticed it this hot before. Yesterday, started tinkering with it again - tested stock Dell monitor - it's running great off the laptop I'm typing on right now. Changed DIMMs around in the slots - started on 1, then added another and so on. No joy. Blew out slots etc and have thoroughly cleaned the case top to bottom. Stripped down case, tested PSU (all ok according to the self-test diagnostics in the Dell manual. Checked it again yesterday). Changed CMOS battery after getting '5 short beeps' - it's not that either. All lights/fans/LEDs on MoBo still function perfectly and I can s
