Is it the Li-Ion battery (Fru P/N: 02K6627 / ASM P/N: 02K6621)? or is there like a CMOS chip somewhere I have to replace or is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foJeWyfOndQ it the small Panasonic CR2032 lithium round battery that is connected to the motherboard (i think) once the battery is taken out (IBM P/N 02K6541 / FRU P/N: 02K6572).. If I can identify what needs to be replaced then I can buy the part to do this.. if someone can help it would be sincerely appreciated as i'm hopeless when it comes to computers/laptops. Thank you. The instructions to reset the cmos password should be in it. http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/s...downloadsDriversLandingPage.vm&validate=false "Mandy Cuthbert" <> wrote in message news:4402ae64$0$30674$... > Hi. I bought a few weeks ago an used IBM ThinkPad 2655 (A22e) in a vey good condition (barely used) which came with Windows 2000 Professional, and I thought still was under guaranty (but last night I found out with horror that it had expired a few months ago!). Everything was working great and I was SO happy real time clock having my first TP which I really need for studying. I partitioned it, installed Suse 8.1 and have been using it everyday with no problems at all, that is up to last night when I was on Linux coding some HTML with JavaScripts when suddenly everything froze! (something I’d only experienced under Windows before) There was no way to ‘kill’ anything or restart the computer (and it started making a funny noise) so I turned it off and on again but then it wouldn’t get past the first screen (one saying to “Press F1 to enter IBM BIOS Setup Utility” or F12 for boot device). It just won’t even ask for my hardware & bios password much less get into the selection between Linux and Windows! I tried several times getting into BIOS but all I got were the following error messages: ERROR 0271 – check date and time settings ERROR 0188 – Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area or Bad CRC2 Then after a couple of tries it changed to: ERROR 0270 – Real time clock error ERROR 0251 – System CMOS Checksum bad-Default Configurations used ERROR 0188 – Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area or Bad CRC2 I really do not know what happened, if something suddenly melted in there (the TP does feel a bit hot) and it died (which

Looking around the web, the answer is that the machine may need a replacement CMOS battery which I have replaced. However, the error still persists! What is the problem? Anyone know?Help! Reply Quote Dwynnehugh Posted 4 Years Ago 4GB Group: Forum Members Last Active: 9 hours ago Posts: 3.8K, Visits: 22.8K Hi,It could be that the time/date setting in the bios have reverted to default - 1/1/1980 or similar, the message might go away if you reset the time/date etc. in the bios. From memory my old Thinkpad used to allow Bios access by pressing and holding down F8 on starting up - failing that try F10Also have a look at this link, it might help to know which T/pad you have:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=YAST-3JWKJXsorry don't know how to make the link active! or failing the above Google:access bios ibm thinkpadand many sites will be available to you.
