The NLS_LANG environment variable contains an invalid language, territory, or character set. Fix: Unset the NLS_LANG environment variable Windows - The NLS_LANG must be unset in the Windows registry (re-named is best). Look for the NLS_LANG subkey in the registry at \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE, and rename it. Linux/UNIX - Here you simply issue the Linux command "unset NLS_LANG" share|improve this answer answered Oct 8 '11 at 23:04 Shawn Bower 1,01611119 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote I have Oracle 10g XE and Windows 7. Re: Oracle database connection error Jianhai Sun Nov 5, 2013 2:04 PM (in response to Tracy Rodgers) Thanks for the link. I think it's environment setting issue within Tableau Server because I can connect to Oracle database using Tableau Desktop and create a worksheet without any problems. If I login Tableau Server and select Admin tab on the left, select Data Connections and select a connection with Oracle connection type. In the Edit Data Connection screen, I cannot find the database service name. Samething is true if I click on a data connection with Oracle type and I cannot find the database service name from the Attributes screen either. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3.
